Not the best credit history but looking to get a mortgage.

Hi Guys, My position is somewhat unusual (at least I think so, maybe there are a few of you that might be in the same loop). Whilst I was a student as usual I was carefree and somewhat spendthrift. Changed addresses quite often (10 over the period of 4 years), defaulted on a credit card and a mobile phone contract etc. But since past few years I have been trying to get my history immaculate and recently ordered my credit history which doesn’t show any more defaults etc but exceptionally high number of searches on my file (due to me looking to buy a car). Now that I am married and would like to get on the property ladder what is the best way to secure a mortgage (if at all). Thanks.
