Mistake by Barclaycard now on my Credit Report

Last year I paid off my Barclaycard, and unbeknown to me, they cancelled my direct debit set up each month to pay my bill. When I used the card again, I ended up with a letter saying I had missed a payment. I contacted them immediatel, and they acknowledged they had cancelled the Direct Debit, and set it up again.

Now on my Credit Record they have 3 months down as missing a payment, which I did not do, and the original problem was due to their error not mine.

I have recently paid the card off again and closed the account, but can they rectify mistakes they have made on a closed account.

I tend to get better results writing to the credit reference agencies to correct factual errors rather than writing to the lender directly.

They will liaise with the lender, who is legally obliged to correct the information (or give a reason why they refuse to do so) within 28 days. While the record is being investigated, the credit reference agency will place a Notice of Dispute on your report stating that the information present is under review and may not be reliable.

This applies to any record on the report - both closed and open accounts.

Any lender who searches your report during the investigation will see the Notice and will have to score your report manually rather than by computer (this may or may not work in your favour, depends on both the lender and your credit status).
