Oxfam donations can now earn you Nectar points

Charity donations to Oxfam can now boost your Nectar points as well as help raise millions of pounds to help fight poverty.

Oxfam has teamed up with Nectar to reward charity donations with Nectar points.

Those with a Nectar card can earn two points for every £1 that their donated item raises in stores or online.

Oxfam hopes that this 'first of its kind' partnership will boost quality donations and help raise millions of pounds to help fight poverty around the world.

How to get involved

You will need to sign up to Oxfam’s Tag Your Bag scheme in-store or online to get started.

Tag Your Bag is Oxfam's Gift Aid scheme which enables the charity to get an extra 25% back from the Government when it sells a donated item.

Gift Aid is a scheme run by HMRC that allows all charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers.

And it costs you nothing – in fact with Oxfam’s new partner on its scheme you can now get 100 Nectar points just for signing up.

Once you've been confirmed as a UK taxpayer you will get a welcome pack with the tags that enable Oxfam to claim Gift Aid back on your donation. All you need to do is attach these to the bag of your unwanted items before dropping them off at an Oxfam store.

Racking up the points

Oxfam will process all donations using a unique code that ensures each sale can be traced back to the individual donor.

So if your bag of donated CDs manages to earn £20 including Gift Aid you could get 40 Nectar points.

But Nectar points are only rewarded if an item sells in a store or online.

So you can’t do much to boost the points you get from Oxfam, apart from donating quality fashion, books, music or homeware that might sell for more.

Adding it all up

Oxfam currently only has 600,000 people signed up to the Tag Your Bag Gift Aid scheme.

But Nectar has nearly 19 million cardholders that could benefit from the new partnership - so if everyone got involved Oxfam could get a massive boost in donations and consequently boost the money it is able to raise.
