Rachel Robson gives the lowdown on three shopping mistakes we’re all prone to making...

In today’s video, I’m going to highlight three shopping blunders we all make.

Forgetting to use voucher codes

When shopping online, many of us forget to keep a lookout for voucher codes which can provide great discounts on our shopping.

Several websites are worth checking out, such as Hot UK Deals, vouchercodes.co.uk, my vouchercodes.co.uk and voucher seeker.co.uk.

If you find a suitable voucher code for your purchase, simply enter it at the online checkout, and watch the pounds get zapped off your bill!

Forgetting to use a cashback website

Online shoppers are also prone to forgetting about cashback websites. But if you register on a site such as Quidco or GreasyPalm, you can get money back every time you shop.

Simply check to see whether a particular retailer is listed on the cashback website, and if it is, click on the affiliate link shown. This will take you through to the retailer’s site where you can then make your purchase as usual. This transaction will be tracked and you’ll earn cash back!

Paying the wrong way!

Whenever you go into a shop these days, the shop assistant is bound to try and tempt you into signing up for a store card. You’ll usually be told you will get a discount of ten percent for doing so. But if you sign up and you’re unable to pay off the bill in full each month, you’ll get hit with a hefty interest rate.

Instead, you’re much better off paying with a credit card. If you can afford to pay off the bill in full each month, make sure you use a cashback credit card and you’ll earn money back every time you spend on it, wherever you shop.

If you can’t pay off the bill in full each month, you should use a nought percent on new purchases credit card. By doing so, every purchase you make will be interest free for up to 12 months!

Don’t forget, you can compare a range of credit cards right here at lovemoney.com

If you can afford to pay it off when you get the bill then surely you always take the store card. I'm not aware of any cash back card giving 10% and you don't have to use the store card again.
