I'm Jane Baker for lovemoney.com. Today I'm going to be looking at the worst Valentine's Day rip offs.

February the 14th is all about treating your other half, but that doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune. So I'm going to be picking out some fantastic affordable gifts too.

Frugal flowers

Let's start off with flowers. If the love of your life would adore a beautiful floral gift on Sunday, you could go completely mad at Interflora with the Infatuation Bouquet. This includes 100 grand prix red roses. Mind you it costs a ludicrous £499.99!

For far more frugal flowers check out Lidl where a single rose is a steal at just £1.79, while a bouquet of a dozen luxury freedom red roses is totally affordable at £16.99.

Crazy champagne

Now let's move onto what is probably the most expensive champagne ever. For those who love a bit of fizz, and have more money than sense, a 3 litre bottle of Dom Perignon White Gold Jeroboam is available from Harrods at a shocking £7,750.

Back to the real world and you can pick up a perfectly drinkable bottle of Tesco Finest Premier Cru for just £14.98. Now that's more like it.

Cheap chocs

Next up it's choccies. French chocolate company zChocolat.com has a special Valentine's gift with 36 chocolate hearts in a mahogany box for almost £116. Back on planet earth you can buy a half-price Thornton's Classic Collection Box for less than £6 at Tesco.

Dinner on Valentine's Day

Meanwhile special Valentine's menus are popping up at restaurants up and down the country, but this is often just an excuse to ramp up the prices. If you're prepared to pay £185 per person, for example, you can enjoy an 8 course tasting menu with pink champagne and all the romantic trimmings at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

But for a more budget choice 3 courses at Pizza Express costs a rather more reasonable £15, while a Tesco Finest Meal and Wine deal for two is just £9. Finally, if you fancy a treat, don't miss the fresh oysters at Asda which are a snip at just 25p each.
