0Word of warning. Check terms definitions carefully. I took out a Lloyds-TSB mortgage in 1997 along with their MPPI. Made redundant end 2000 & claimed. It was declined on the basis that their definition of unemployed was "out of work and receiving benefit" (not mentioned in any of their documentation). As I had received pay in lieu of notice + redundancy payment (which enabled me to continue paying the mortgage), I received no benefit. Therefore the insurance was a complete waste of money (and pre the current "past 6 years" mis-selling claim window).

0Great article. You're totally right about searching the market. I've also had experience of British Insurance www.britishinsurance.com (also independent). For a 40-year old taking out MPPI cover with £500 a month in benefits, the premium would be £19.80 - which would be the second cheapest in the table above. Demonstrates that there are lots of affordable providers out there.
