I am very disappointed to see the visit to Wimbeldon Greyhound Stadium included here.

This industry is responsible for a huge number of dogs ending up in rescue for rehoming. Those are the lucky ones. There are many who are abandoned with injuries they have received racing on the track or have been maimed so that the tattoos in the dog's ears cannot be read and the dog then traced back to the owner.

Re-home a greyhound and find a loving companion:-)

For further information on what happens to greyhounds, go and visit the website below. Be warned there are some graphic photos of the injuries that occur to greyhounds:

Thanks for that comment. I have removed the mention of the greyhound stadium. I haven't dared to look at the pictures but I think you're right - somethings really aren't worth getting a bargain for.

I think R Jackson is making a rather sweeping statement regarding the Greyhound industry.

My family raced whippets/greyhounds for years, the dogs had a loving home, they enjoyed racing. (they even knew the day of the week and would go and get their leads out the cupboard to get us to take them).

In their retirement they lead a happy life until the end.

It is the owners and not the industry that do terrible things to some not all of the dogs, which many owbers do take action against.

On another note, if anyone is interested in getting a dog, I can thoroughly reccomend them, they have a great temprement and are very loving!

    ok, end of rant...

unfortunately the actions of some do tar people with the same brush!

While it's nice that people care about the welfare of the dogs, how many still buy products from P and G, including their dog foods which are tested on animals. If you were unaware of this please take a look at the uncaged website.

thank you for removing that section. many race goers have no idea of the dreadful conditions these gentle creatures have to endure or the misery that befalls them at the end of their racing career. I have 2 retired racers, one has a broken leg which never received any veterinary treatment and she was simply thrown into a concrete pen to become a breeding machine. 42 pups in her life before she became barren and was discarded, during that time she was beaten and had her shoulder smashed in. She is the most loving companion anyone could wish for. this industry has to face up to it's failings and the public should know what they are supporting.

    Hi Fairy

Thanks for pointing this out. Not sure what happened to that link unfortunately, but I've re-copied it in so hopefully it now works. Let me know if you have any other problems. And apologies for the inconvenience.

    Thanks
