The majority of the richest towns in the UK are found in the South East of England but there are also pockets of significant wealth found in the North West of the country, new research shows.
Towns around the London commuter belt feature a lot in the list of the wealthiest places to live from WealthInsight. Windsor topped the list with 850–900 millionaires living there.
Areas near London dominate the list, but several towns in and around Manchester are also included.

The South East
In the list of the top ten wealthiest areas eight areas are found in the South East including Beaconsfield, Ascot and Marlow.
[SPOTLIGHT]Top of the table is Windsor with a population of 27,000 and a distance of 17 miles to London. It’s followed by Weybridge, which has 800–850 millionaires and is found eight miles from London, while in third place is Sevenoaks.
Henley on Thames, which places at number five with 400-450 millionaires living there, is the fasting growing town included. Between 2007 and 2012 there has been a 25% rise in the number of millionaires living there.
The North West
The two areas on the list from the north of England are Hale and Alderley Edge, which are seven and 14 miles to Manchester respectively.
These two areas have between 300–350 millionaires living there.
What the results show
It’s not a huge surprise that the South East harbours the highest number of millionaires in the UK. House prices and average salaries for the area are also some of the highest in the country.
Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, for example, which is fourth on the list has the highest average house price outside of London at an average of £483,621. Households here also earn the most out of any area in the UK with an average salary of £71,815.
Several towns narrowly missed the list, such as Burford, Chipping Campden, Dartmouth, Ilkley, Leatherhead, Lyndhurst, Pangbourne, Ponteland, Virginia Water and Windermere. These are more equally split across the country.
