Aries (21 March - 19 April)

Patrick Arundell: “Throughout 2013.... spending loot will appeal to you more when it is meaningful. This may be thinking about putting money aside for that proverbial rainy day, or making serious moves on the property front.”

If this prediction is right, you should..

Check what kind of mortgage you can get on your current salary, so you’ll know whether you need to keep saving for that house move.

Taurus (20 April to 20 May)

Taurus2013horoscope.com says:

“If you have an appropriate financial strategy, you can buy a new car or new house this year. Try to stick to a budget to avoid financial difficulties that may occur in the future.”

If this prediction is right, then you should...

Set up a budget using Lovemoney free MoneyTrack service. It will allow you to set targets for different types of spending, and will automatically track whether you have met them each month.

Gemini (21 May to 20 June)

John Hayes:

“This is a good time to to try to have a regular routine to focus on. Otherwise, there may be a tendency to drift or overindulge in sensual pursuits."

If this prediction is right, the you should...

Figure out whether you are in danger of spending more than you earn each month. One way to do this is to go through all your bank statements and split your spending into different categories.

Cancer (21 June to 22 July)

Patrick Arundell says:

“February could prove to be very positive. It's possible that you could benefit from someone else's generosity or a legacy. And if providing for others is important to you, you may find yourself investigating pension plans carefully.”

If this prediction is true, then you should...

Consider investing long-term in the stock market. Here at Lovemoney, we have long advocated index trackers as a simple, low-cost way to invest. Find out more about index trackers.

Leo (23 July to 22 August)

Patrick Arundell says:

In 2013... you may find yourself caught up in a frustrating property chain, discover a builder or tradesperson continually reschedules your work, or proves unreliable. Don't pay any money in advance. Be formal, and not too trusting.”

If this prediction is right, then you should...

Pay for everything that costs more than £100 with a credit card. That way, you will be protected by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, and have the right to get compensation from your credit card company if the goods or service you bought fail to arrive or aren’t as described.

Virgo (23 August to 22 September)

Findyourfate.com: “Do not indulge in unwanted extravagance at this time. Be careful when it comes to lending and borrowing as it might land you in troubled waters.”

If this prediction is right, you should...

Avoid borrowing on a credit card. Instead, use a cashback credit card for purchases you can afford, and set up a direct debit to pay it off in full each month.

Libra (23 September to 22 October)

John Hayes says:

“This can be a good period for you financially if you heed Saturn's call for greater self-discipline in money matters. Therefore, pay off debts and reduce your financial commitments.”

If this prediction is right, you should...

Get rid of your credit card debt, once and for all. If you have an interest-bearing card, ditch it for a 0% balance transfer card. That way, 100% of your payments will start going towards your debt, allowing you to pay it off more quickly. Check out the current credit card best buys.

Scorpio (23 October to 21 November)

Patrick Arundell:

“Your sign has an unusually positive connection to the planet of the unexpected. Unsettled work conditions may [mean]... you meet some challenges along the way, especially from May onwards.”

If this prediction is right, you should...

Try to build up an emergency savings pot of at least one month’s salary before May. That way, you should be able to face any unexpected (or should that be expected, now?) challenges head on.

Sagittarius (22 November to 21 December)

Patrick Arundell:

“You may start to develop a more spiritual dimension to finances. This could see you keen to help those less fortunate, or it could see you become more worrisome about what the future might hold.”

If this prediction is right, then you should...

Open an ISA and start saving regularly. You can compare ISAs online. If you are worried about your future and your family, make sure you have got enough life insurance. Finally, try to set up payroll giving with your employer so that you can give to charities tax-free straight out of your pay cheque once a month.

Capricorn (22 December to 19 January)

John Hayes says:

“Your home and private life is also an area where change and upheaval is likely to take place. This may involve changes within the family or to your living situation, a move to break away from the past.”

If this prediction is right, then you should...

In a time of upheaval you may need to spend more, so a 0% on new purchases credit card could be useful. The card will give you some breathing space from large payments when you need it. Just make sure you’ll be able to pay off the balance in full before the 0% period expires.

Aquarius (20 January to 18 February)

Findyourfate.com:

“Finances seem not to be important to you this year, and your hard work of yesteryears shall yield good returns for now. But this does not mean that you should be complacent in this area.

If this prediction is right, you should...

Set reminders in your diary to shop around for new car insurance and energy tariffs when your current deals come to an end, so you don’t forget, and check the interest rate of your savings accounts regularly, in case they drop.

Pisces (19 February to 20 March)

yahoo.com:

“Uranus in your income zone suggests that many Pisceans will see money that comes into your home fluctuate over the year ahead. This will make it hard for you to plan a budget and stick to it.”

If this prediction is right, then you should...

Try to save as much as you can during the good times. A regular savings account will incentivise you to save every month, and Lovemoney’s free MoneyTrack service should be able to help you to plan a flexible budget that you can stick to.

NB: Personally, I'm very sceptical about horoscopes. So I hope, after reading this, you see how silly and generic all the predictions are. But I also hope the advice about what to do with your money may one day prove useful, whatever your star sign...
