Seven ways to save heaps of money this week - and every week!

Monday

How-to Guide Tips 5 tips on this task  |

It's the start of the working week. As you drive to work, I'm sure you've thought countless times how costly petrol is. Do you wince a little every time you fill up at the pumps? Well, wince no more because there's one easy way you can pay rock bottom prices for your fuel.

All you need to do is check petrolprices.com before you next fill up to find the cheapest stations in your area. Where I live, for example, the difference between the least and most expensive unleaded petrol is 8.5p per litre. That would save £5.10 on a 60 litre fill-up.

Why not ask a question on Q&A to get advice on saving petrol?

And, if you've got a tip of your own on how to save money every Monday, please post it below to help other lovemoney.com readers!

Agree with cycle to work - and if you live in London you may also save on congestion charge (currently £8 per day) if you normally take car. But don't forget to SPEND some money on high visibility clothing and batteries for headlights etc! BE SAFE and SAVE.

Only make essential journeys. My journey to hospital this morning is essential but I'll allow plenty of time, use 5th gear most of the way. Go light on the accelerator and the brakes and think ahead. When approaching traffic lights for example. The ones I go through this morning stay on red for 5 minutes sometimes. I become aware from maybe 1/2 a mile away of what they are doing and time my arrival at the lights when they are green if I can. I save petrol because I don't have to stop and start and I don't get frustrated with the "sequenced" Traffic lights all on red to allow non-existent pedestrians to cross the road! Parking too can be a problem and it's a good idea to arrive early to save rushing to get a parking space. Not too early though or that just jams everything up even more if everyone does that. I also take drinks. The drinks at the hospital are double the price of the supermarket! I also have sweets in case I get hungry, waiting times vary.

I don't drive to work so take public transport. Check out alternative ways to get to work - car share, bus or train....

It works out cheaper buying a weekly or save even more with a 4-weekly ticket e.g it would be 3 quid a day for me to go to work, 12.20 for a weekly ticket or £46.90 for a 4-weekly...
