Reduce your communications bill

How-to Guide Tips 5 tips on this task  |

1) Consider a bundle
You could save a small fortune if you’re prepared to bundle. Bundling your broadband with your phone line or mobile will often be cheaper than opting for different providers. You can compare different packages at broadbandchoices.co.uk.

2) Get a dongle
Dongles eliminate the need for a costly fixed phone line, allowing you to access the internet from wherever you are, with no plugs or cumbersome wires involved.

They are only about the size of a computer mouse, you plug it into your computer via a USB port, and if there is a 3G signal, you can start surfing almost straight away.

3) Pay by direct debit
Many phone companies offer  a discount if you pay by direct debit. It’s easy to set up, and means you’ll always pay your bills on time. Read about using direct debit.

4) Make sure you get the right broadband deal
If you don’t use the net for downloading, then you could save a fortune by switching to a more basic package – the packages with download limits are always far cheaper. However, go over this limit and you'll be smacked with painful additional charges.

5) Free talk on the internet
If you've got broadband, you can use Skype software to phone over the internet for free. In a nutshell, Skype users can call each other for nothing, and connect to 'normal' phones for a small charge.

when and if using a dongle always wait for the 3G signal as it`s a million times better than GPRS,most internet providers come online that much quicker too.

Bt. have been charging me and billing me for something that I do not have. -Instance.. I never had a Bt.vision, yet few months ago under a ref: No. they charged me £82.02 though I was put to their customer services in India and was told on their word of honour that I will get this refunded. that is three times all in all ..all they said it I will get refunded. All I asked Bt.for was a wirelesss Broadband, and they force down my throat a telephone and that attracted more rentals. 1st July 2010 they threaten to issue a summons for £70.03. I was told and I have their final bill that pay this amount and all will be terminated. Today I get a new bill for and £60.49 for reconnection etc. that I did not ask for. I have never used any of their services at all. They have found me being severely disabled and housebound plus double grieving for the passing away of my wife and my only Son at 27 years old who worked hard and was a manager of a store. Now I am all alone in the house in this world. I am taking several medication which I am so disturbed by my bad luck that I am thinking of taking them all and finish with. I have never hurt anybody in my life. I was a in the legal profession but that was a long time ago. I am now nearing my seventies and I am have disturbing sleep. I get my food from a company who have been good to me they put the food in my freezer weekly. I am unable to collect my prescriptions so it gets delivered by a very kind chemist. Today after receiving strongly worded Bill from Bt. I am at my wits end and I am seriously thinking to end it all. These Giant companies hold on to the weak. I have a landline telephone and a broadband from Virgin. I have never had any trouble and they go out of thrir way to help me. Since Bt. have become aware of my connection with Virgin, they have started and keep renwing the contracts without telling me.

Please somebody, anybody help me. I do want to live to see my Grandaughter grow and look forward to her visits. Now I have no one in the World at all. It is frightning to live alone and keep paying Bt. my Food money. Their Customer Service say something with a word of honour, than I get the oposit in writing and bills to pay or else. What can a weak person like me to do?. I am going down with a lot of noise but only iF the Hon. Lovemoney.com say that there is nothing in the world that can be done. I have heard such esteem things about Lovemoney.com that I will do anything for their advice and help. I am on so many medication, that I get sideeffects so often that I get confused to who I am. I do have a good Doctor's Surgery, but I do not and cannot walk there. CAN ANY ONE HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ME PLEASE. BT.OWE ME MONEY,SO WHY DO THEY DO THIS. THEY IGNORE MY MAILS AND TELEPHONE CALLS AND JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT DO THEY GET IN HARASSING A WEAK MAN DOUBLE GRIEVING WIDOW. PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP. I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF MISTAKES HERE,MY EYSIGHT IS GOING AND CANNOT GO TO OPTICIAN. THAT MAKES IT WORST.

I HOPE IHAVE NOT BORED OR MADE ANY ONE ANGRY BECAUSE OF MY TRAUMAS.

    MANY THANKS AND KIND REGARDS.

    ALLAN.

Dongles are expensive. I have one from O2 till I get my broadband beacuse I have just moved home. Its on a special offer at the moment. Each one really costs 20GBP and I got two for 30GBP. Then, I had to pay 15GBP on each to get 1GB of data for internet surfing. EXPENSIVE!
