New baby on the way - what should we ask parents to buy?

We're expecting our first child soon and both sets of our parents have very kindly offered to buy gifts.

I wondered what would be sensible/useful to ask for?

Appreciate any advice :)

    Well Bellini,

All depends how generous they are going to be...:)

A pram is a sensible purchase make sure it has a built in car seat that its light and nimble that's important.

A rocking cot bed is a fantastic idea they normally cost between £80-£100 but most kids spend the first few months with mum and dad so no need to spend out on a large bed from the outset. Our one has been brilliant for both kids.

A rocker for the baby to sit in when you want 5 minutes peace.

Baby bottles and a sterilising machine an absolute must.

    A wardrobe for the baby.

A nice high chair for the baby.

Lots of nappies and baby wipes they're expensive and believe me you'll be using a few of them daily! :)

    A baby monitor.

A baby bath or something to help you wash the baby before bedtime.

Clothes would be my last suggestion but in all honesty that's probably my worst one. Mum in particular knows what her baby needs to wear and other people normally fail to buy clothes you'll like or want.

God I need to get out more :)

Wow Scott, that's such a useful list! Thanks very much!

Good point about the cot - can wait until a bit later. Hadn't thought of putting that purchase off.
