Welcome to this week’s edition of Frugal Food. Let’s kick things off straight away with the best grocery deals around.

Best supermarket deals

This week, I’m going to start with a top deal at Morrisons. You can currently pick up this picnic meal deal for £4 - perfect for a sunny lunch in the park or garden. You’ll have to be quick though, as the offer ends on Sunday 6th June.

At Somerfield/The Co-op, 400g packs of Cathedral City Mature cheddar are currently half-price at £2.12. Fresh cherries are also 50% off, so you can get 250g for for £2.

LIDL deals include various types of Goodfella’s pizza reduced from £2.37 to just £1. 500g tubs of Utterly Butterly are down from £1.29 to 59p; and 250g packs of cherry tomatoes are only 39p.

Over at NETTO, you can get 21-packs of Walkers Variety for £2, and 200g jars of Douwe Egberts Le Café Dark Roast coffee for £3 (usual price £5.64).

At Tesco, you can now get 400g of fresh strawberries for £1.99, reduced from £3.99. 150g packs of Saint Agur cheese are half-price at £1; and 3.2kg of pork shoulder joint is down from £15.97 to £7.97.

Also at Tesco, tubes of Pringles are less than half their normal price, at 95p each.

Sainsbury’s top deals include a 2 for 1 offer on baking potatoes, which means you get 5kg for £1.92. 716g packs of lamb chops are currently half-price at £5; and there’s still a 2 for 1 deal on several varieties of Carte D’Or ice cream.

Finally, 500g packs of Kellogg’s Fruit ‘n’ Fibre and Just Right are both half price.

At ASDA, five-packs of Peperami are better-than-half-price, down from £2.35 to £1 each. There are also better-than-half-price deals on several varieties of Heinz salad cream and Kraft salad dressing.

And finally, there’s a good deal on McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes: You can currently pick up 72 jaffa cakes for just £3.

There are sometimes much better deals on offer at street markets and independent shops than there are at the supermarkets. Unfortunately, their local nature makes it impossible for us to cover them properly here.

Tipple

At LIDL, you can currently pick up 12 500ml cans of Stella Artois for only £9.99.

And at Tesco, 750ml bottles of De Vallois Brut Non Vintage Champagne are down from £28 to £14 each.

You can still grab a free drink when you register on this page of the Young’s brewery website and print the voucher.

Drinks on offer include a pint of Young’s Bitter, a 500ml bottle of Savannah Cider, a small glass of house wine or a soft drink. The deal runs until 12th June, and vouchers can be redeemed at Young’s pubs showing World Cup matches.

And Tesco Wine is still offering big discounts on many of its wines, including at least 33% off 75 varieties. Many wines on the website are priced at 50% off, so it’s definitely worth having a browse.

Best restaurant deals

Cut price snacks

You can now get tea or coffee - plus a fresh cream scone - for only £1 at your local Morrisons café. Just print off this voucher and present it at the till. You’ll need to move quickly though, as the voucher is only valid until 6th June.

Register for a free BiTE card and you’ll get 20% off your bill at a range of food and drink outlets in train and coach stations. Participating eateries include Upper Crust, The Pasty Shop, Pumpkin Café, Burger King, Millie’s Cookies and lots more.

You can find your nearest one using this search tool. Just remember that you won’t get the discounts at shopping centre outlets; and the offer excludes confectionery, crisps, ice cream, newspapers, magazines, books, cigarettes, tobacco and telephone cards.

You can still get a free cup of coffee at Giraffe just for turning up! Pop in to your nearest Giraffe on a Wednesday before 10.30am, and claim your free Americano, latte, cappuccino or herbal tea.

The offer is only valid on Wednesdays before 10.30am, and runs until 16th June. Just remember that it’s only valid on classic-size, takeaway drinks, and is not valid at restaurants in airports.

Voucher codes

You can still get £10 off your first online grocery shop at Tesco when you enter the code XXAFFT at the checkout.

You’ll need to spend at least £50 to quality for the discount, and the code is valid on deliveries made before 30th September. It isn’t valid on certain items, including tobacco products, prescription medication and baby milk.

You can also get £10 off your Ocado bill when you use the code VOU9206024 at the checkout. Bear in mind you’ll need to book your delivery slot first, which has to be before 30th June.
