This week we bring you new and extended restaurant deals from GBK, Bella Italia, STRADA, YO! Sushi, Ha ha bar & grill and La Tasca. We also have a new ‘dine in’ deal at Sainsbury’s, a 3 for 1 deal on Pringles, a free can of Smirnoff Vodka and Cola, free Twinings tea and the Gourmet Society membership card for just 99p!

Welcome to this week’s edition of Frugal food. Let’s kick things off straight away with the best grocery deals around.

Best supermarket deals

This week, I’m going to start with a new ‘dine in’ deal from Sainsbury’s. From now until 4th May, you can pick up mains, side dishes and desserts for two - plus a bottle of wine - for £10.

The offer is valid in-store and online; and as usual, it applies to selected dishes only. There are currently six mains, five sides, five desserts and three bottles of wine to choose from.

Other good deals at Sainsbury’s include six-packs of Muller Fruit Corner yoghurts, reduced from £2.97 to £1.48. And there’s a great 3 for 1 offer on Pringles, which means you can pick up three tubes for £2.03.

Over at ASDA there are still big discounts on a range of Cathedral City cheddar, with Cathedral City Extra Mature Yet Mellow cheddar (400g) just £1.82, down from £4.57.

There’s also a good ASDA deal on Coca Cola: 15 can packs are now £3, reduced from £5.35.

Tesco deals include Saint Agur cheese at half its normal price, and 12 pots of Muller Rice for £3. 500ml tubs of Haagen Dazs are still only £1.99 each; and there’s a 2 for 1 deal on Hellmann’s salad cream.

Finally, there’s a better-than-half-price deal on Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain bars, making a pack of eight just £1.

Offers at Morrisons include a good breakfast meal deal for £4. And to top that breakfast off, 570g bottles of Heinz tomato ketchup are half-price, reduced from £2 to £1.

At Somerfield/The Co-op, whole legs of lamb have been reduced from £8.99 to £4.49 per kg.

And deals at NETTO include 40 packs of Golden Wonder crisps for just £3.

Over at LIDL there are some great deals on fruit and veg: You can pick up 250g packs of spinach for 49p, 1kg of courgettes for £1 and 350g of mushrooms for 49p.

And finally, ALDI deals include five lemons for 69p, 500g white grapes for 69p and 500g broccoli for 69p.

There are sometimes much better deals on offer at street markets and independent shops than there are at the supermarkets. Unfortunately, their local nature makes it impossible for us to cover them properly here.

Tipple

You can now grab a free 250ml can of Smirnoff Vodka and Cola when you register on the website and print off the voucher.

The voucher is valid until 3 June, and can be redeemed at participating retailers only. Remember that you’ll need to be over 18 to get this freebie.

At Morrisons, there are some big discounts on spirits: 1l of Gordon’s gin is now £13 (previously £18.98); 1l of Smirnoff vodka is £13 (previously £18.98); and 1l of Bell’s whisky is also £13 (previously £19.48). There’s a maximum of three bottles per customer.

You can still pick up a free drink at a Greene King pub when you choose your local pub, register and print the voucher you’ll be emailed. You’ll need to be over 18 (of course!) and you’re only able to choose one drink specified on the voucher.

These currently include 175ml glasses of Santa Carolina white, red or rose wine, pints of Carling, Foster’s, IPA, John Smith’s Extra Smooth or Carlsberg, and glasses of coke and lemonade.

It’s one voucher per customer, and your voucher will be valid for two weeks after you sign up.

Best restaurant deals

Cut price snacks

Twinings is running another tea bag giveaway, with some new flavours added. You can claim your two free bags on the website, choosing either from the speciality or from the Infusions/green tea section.

Budget bakery Greggs has extended its latest promotion: You can still pick up a freshly made Sub Roll for just £1 when you register here and print the voucher. The offer now runs until 9th May.

Finally, you can still get a free cup of coffee at Giraffe just for turning up! Pop in to your nearest Giraffe on a Wednesday before 10.30am, and claim your free Americano, latte, cappuccino or herbal tea.

The offer is only valid on Wednesdays before 10.30am, and runs until 16th June. Just remember that it’s only valid on classic-size, takeaway drinks, and is not valid at restaurants in airports.

Voucher codes

You can currently get £10 off your first online grocery shop at Tesco when you enter the code XXAFFT at the checkout.

You’ll need to spend £50 or more, and the code expires on 4th May. Just remember that the discount isn’t valid on purchases of wine by the case, tobacco, infant milk formulae or prescription medicines.

Gourmet Society is a restaurant discount scheme that operates all over the UK. Once you’re a member, you can get the following discounts at 3,500 participating restaurants: 2 for 1 meals, 50% off food, or 25% off food and drink.

To find a participating restaurant near you, use this search tool. The membership card usually costs £35 (for six months); but Gourmet Society is currently offering 20,000 of its dining cards for just 99p each.

To grab one of these cards, register on this page of the website. The deal closes 4th May, and you should be emailed with full details about how to claim your card after that.

Just remember that this is a limited offer, so unfortunately we can’t be sure there will still be cards available by the time you register.
