Welcome to this week’s edition of Frugal food. Let’s kick things off straight away with the best grocery deals around.

Best supermarket deals

This week, I’m going to start with the latest Dine In for £10 deal from Marks & Spencer. As usual, you can pick up mains, side dishes and desserts for two, plus a bottle of wine, all for £10.

The deal runs for longer than usual this week - from now until Tuesday 20th April - and you can view the full menu here.

At Tesco, top offers include a 2 for 1 deal on Cathedral City Mature Yet Mellow Cheddar. 400g boxes of Quality Street chocolates are half-price, currently just £1.99. And you can still get eight tins of Branston baked beans for just £2.

Finally, 500ml tubs of Haagen Dazs ice cream are priced at 50% off - now £1.99 instead of the usual £3.99 each. Yum!

Over at ASDA, you can still pick up two 400g jars of Nutella for £2 (usually £1.78 each).

And at Sainsbury’s, good deals include 3kg joints of boneless gammon (reduced from £23.97 to just £11.97) and 100g Milka chocolate bars (down from 97p to 43p).

At Morrisons you can pick up six Petits Filous for 75p (reduced from £1.50) and 16 Young’s fish fingers for £1.49 (down from £2.99).

And you can also claim a free Morrisons recipe binder in-store: Register here, print off the coupon you’re sent and take it to your local Morrisons customer service desk to claim your binder. As always, this offer is subject to availability.

NETTO deals include a BOGOF offer on a range of Heinz soups (usually 82p each).

And at ALDI, Super 6 fruit and veg deals include eight-packs of kiwi fruit, 500g of white grapes, whole pineapples and six-packs of pears, all for 69p each.

Somerfield/The Co-op is currently selling 140g bars of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk chocolate for £1 each.

And finally, LIDL deals include mangos at 34p each, and five-packs of Cadbury’s Flake, Crunchie and Dairy Milk bars - all for £1.25 each.

There are sometimes much better deals on offer at street markets and independent shops than there are at the supermarkets. Unfortunately, their local nature makes it impossible for us to cover them properly here.

If you’ve come across a great food deal at your local market, please do leave a comment at the bottom of the article letting us know. That way, fellow readers in your local area can take advantage of the offer you’ve flagged up. Thanks!

Tipple

At ASDA, you can currently pick up 15 300ml bottles of Budweiser for £8, reduced from £12.

And NETTO is selling 24 440ml cans of Carling for £13.99, down from £18.99.

Finally, there is a big sale currently on at Tesco Wine, with many wines and sparkling wines reduced to half-price.

And finally… our big brand test!

Here at lovemoney.com, we’ve been conducting some tasting experiments.

Do some big name brands really taste better than their ‘own brand’ equivalents? Do any ‘own brands’ come out on top? Or is it impossible to tell the difference?

We tested baked beans, toast, Fruit & Fibre and tea - and you can find out what the results were by watching this video.

Every Friday, we round up the week's top food shopping bargains, supermarket vouchers and restaurant offers. If you register on lovemoney.com, you can follow this blog and find new posts as soon as they are published, via your personal homepage. Never miss a frugal food bargain again - register now.

Every effort is made to source voucher codes which are valid at the time this article is published. However, please be aware that lovemoney.com cannot guarantee that every voucher will be valid or that it will not be withdrawn by the provider immediately.
