Welcome to this week’s edition of Frugal food. Let’s kick things off straight away with the best grocery deals around.

Best supermarket deals

This week, I’m going to start with the best deals at Tesco. There are several good offers in the fruit and veg section: For example, Seven-packs of pears are reduced from £1.60 to 80p, and seven-packs of tomatoes are down from 97p to 40p.

At the meat counter, whole Gressingham ducks are still half-price; and elsewhere you can pick up 20 Young’s fish fingers for £1.99 (down from £3.99). Finally, a better-than-half-price deal on Branston baked beans means you can now buy eight 420g tins for just £2.

Rachel Robson rounds up five ways to cut your food bills.

At Sainsbury’s, 750g boxes of Kellogg’s Bran Flakes and 500g boxes of Nestle Bitesize Shredded Wheat are both half-price. And various six-packs of McCoy’s crisps are also 50% off, down from £1.69 to 84p.

Over at ASDA, you can pick up two 400g jars of Nutella for £2 (usually £1.78 each). Keeping to the slightly unhealthy theme, you can also get 10-packs of Nik Naks for just £1 each, and 100g Toblerone bars for 50p each.

Top deals at Morrisons include Pizza Express Margherita pizzas, reduced from £4.99 to £2 each. Just remember it’s a maximum of three per customer.

At NETTO, you can get 750ml bottles of Don Mario extra virgin olive oil for £2 each.

And finally, ALDI Super Six deals include 1kg carrots, 450g vine tomatoes, 350g mushrooms and six-packs of oranges - all for just 49p each.

There are sometimes much better deals on offer at street markets and independent shops than there are at the supermarkets. Unfortunately, their local nature makes it impossible for us to cover them properly here.

If you’ve come across a great food deal at your local market, please do leave a comment at the bottom of the article letting us know. That way, fellow readers in your local area can take advantage of the offer you’ve flagged up. Thanks!

Tipple

At NETTO, you can now get 20 440ml cans of Carlsberg for just £10.

And at Majestic Wine, you can save 25% when you buy two Spanish still wines.

Cut your food bills

As food prices continue to rise, here's some handy ways to keep your food bills under control.

Keep your eyes peeled for post-Easter chocolate reductions: There are reports of Cadbury’s Crème Egg six-packs going for just 75p at Home Bargains… but these deals fly off the shelves, so grab them when you see them!

There’s a big spring sale at Thorntons. For example, this Truffle Handbag is now £2.99 (down from £5.99) and this four-box set of Continental chocolates is now £30, reduced from £60.

And over at Hotel Chocolat, half-price deals include this Taste of Spring collection (down from £11 to £5.50) and this dark chocolate egg with extra chocolates, reduced from £15 to £7.50.

Finally, you can still get a free cup of coffee at Giraffe just for turning up! Pop in to your nearest Giraffe on a Wednesday before 10.30am, and claim your free Americano, latte, cappuccino or herbal tea.

The offer is only valid on Wednesdays before 10.30am, and runs until 16th June. Just remember that it’s only valid on classic-size, takeaway drinks, and is not valid at restaurants in airports.

Voucher codes

You can still get 15% off your first shop at Ocado when you enter the code VOU1155403 at the check-out.

You’ll need to spend at least £40 to make the saving, be a new Ocado customer, and get your order delivered before 13th April.

Voucher code promotions tend to be withdrawn quickly. If you’ve missed out on this one, you can use the following websites to track down new voucher codes as and when they come up:

HotUKDeals

MyVoucherCodes

SavaCode

SupermarketVoucherCodes

ShoppingCodes

SupermarketCoupons

And finally… 15% cashback for being healthy

Are you looking to get fit after all that Easter excess?

Quidco is currently offering a substantial 15% cashback when you shop at Holland & Barrett - so it’s a good time to stock up on those health foods!
