Welcome to this week’s edition of Frugal food. Let’s kick things off straight away with the best grocery deals around.
Best supermarket deals
This week, I’m going to start with the best deals at Tesco. Black seedless grapes are currently half price, down from £3.24 to £1.62 per 650g. Boxes of kiwis are also being sold at 50% off, with packs of nine now priced at 74p.
There are still some good 2 for 1 deals on Seriously Strong cheddar, Philadelphia and Activia yoghurt multi-packs. And gammon joints are half price as well, working out at £2.92 per kg.
Finally, now is a good time to get your Easter eggs: There are several better-than-half-price deals at Tesco, with several varieties of eggs reduced from £2 to just 97p.
Over at ASDA, you can still pick up 500ml of Napolina extra virgin olive oil for £2 (reduced from £3.98).
And there’s a very good better-than-half-price deal on a range of Homepride sauces: 500g jars usually cost £1.20-£1.35, but at the moment you can buy any two for just £1.
At Sainsbury’s, there are good 2 for 1 deals on various cookie bags, on Muller Fruit Corner multipacks and on Hula Hoops.
And at Morrisons, the ‘half price essentials’ push continues. This week, the focus is on fresh fruit and veg, with 700g bags of tangerines for £1 and bags of herb garden salad for 60p.
Somerfield/The Co-operative is selling six-packs of Pepsi for £1.25, reduced from £2.59. You can also get a pack of eight Nutri-Grain bars for £1.19, knocked down from £2.59.
At LIDL, you can currently get 2l bottles of Pepsi and 7UP for just 78p, reduced from £1.56. You can also pick up white cabbages for 29p per kg, down from 68p.
And finally, ALDI’s Super Six deals include packs of mushrooms, kiwis, green apples, white potatoes and broccoli for 49p each.
There are sometimes much better deals on offer at street markets and independent shops than there are at the supermarkets. Unfortunately, their local nature makes it impossible for us to cover them properly here.
If you’ve come across a great food deal at your local market, please do leave a comment at the bottom of the article letting us know. That way, fellow readers in your local area can take advantage of the offer you’ve flagged up. Thanks!
Tipple
At Tesco, crates of Guinness Draught (18 x 440ml cans) have been reduced from £22.59 to £15.
ASDA is currently selling 1l bottles of Bell’s Scotch Whisky for £14, down from £19.38.
And finally, Majestic Wine is currently offering 25% off any South African wines when you buy two or more bottles.
Best restaurant deals
As always, new and extended deals appear at the top of the table.

Cut price snacks
Check out the factory clearance section on the Thorntons chocolate website. There are currently several discounted Valentine’s Day items that might work well for Mother's Day (just don’t tell!).
For example, this pink champagne bottle is down from £6.50 to £4.49, these Viennese truffles are reduced from £5.99 to £2.99, and this heart milk chocolate plaque is down from £4.99 to £1.75.
At Greggs, you can still get two chicken and bacon lattices for the price of one when you register here and print the voucher. Just remember you need to use your voucher before 13th March.
Voucher codes
You can still get £10 off your first online shop at Tesco when you enter the code XXAFFT at the checkout.
Just remember that you’ll need to spend at least £50 to qualify for the discount; and the code is not valid on the delivery charge, cigarettes, baby milk or prescription medications.
Voucher code promotions tend to be withdrawn quickly. If you’ve missed out on these, you can use the following websites to track down new voucher codes as and when they come up:
And finally… mums on a budget
If you’re a mum (or dad!) on a tight budget, check out the food and recipes advice over at NetMums.
There are loads of guides to frugal cookery, including how to batch cook, how to make the most of beans and how to use up leftovers.
You can even pop over to the coffee house to chat to other parents on the forums. Good luck!
