Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal food. Let's kick things off straight away with the best grocery deals around.

Best supermarket deals

This week I'm going to start with the best offers at Tesco. Five-packs of oranges are currently half price at £1.24; and seven-packs of pears are also half price, at 73p.

Over in the dairy aisle, six-packs of Muller Little Stars Smooth Berry yoghurts have been reduced from £1.50 to just 50p each (only until 23rd February); and several varieties of Aero chocolate mousse have been knocked down from £1.18 to 50p (for packs of four).

Certain 500ml pots of Green & Black's organic ice cream are down from £3.99 to £1.99. And finally, you can currently get six Cadbury's Cream Eggs for £1.34 (half price) but again, only until 23rd February.

Over at Sainsbury's, bags of eight Cox apples have been reduced from £1.99 to 99p. Whole pineapples are also half price, down from £1.89 to 94p.

In the cereals aisle, there's 50% off boxes of Shredded Wheat and Shreddies. And finally, 1l bottles of Ribena are half price, down from £2.77 to £1.38.

At ASDA, there's a better-than-half-price deal on McVitie's cakes: For example, this golden syrup cake usually costs £1.15, but you can currently buy two for just £1.

And there's a similar deal on certain varieties of Twinings tea: For example, this box of Twinings Everyday tea is usually £2.18, but at the moment you can pick up two boxes for £2.

Morrisons is currently selling British pork leg joints at 50% off, reduced from £5.98 to £2.99 per kg. And it has a good 2 for 1 deal on Borges Extra Virgin olive oil, which means you can buy a litre of the oil for £3.89.

At Somerfield/The Co-operative, you can now pick up some cut-price chocs in preparation for Mothers' Day. Lily O'Brien's Contemporary Collection (255g) has been reduced from £9 to £4.50, and boxes of Cadbury's Milk Tray (400g) are now £3.25, reduced from £6.75.

And finally, LIDL offers include avocados at 29p each, 21-packs of Walkers crisps for £1.99 and 500g of Pilgrim's Choice Extra Mature Cheddar for £2.50.

There are sometimes much better deals on offer at street markets and independent shops than there are at the supermarkets. Unfortunately, their local nature makes it impossible for us to cover them properly here.

If you've come across a great food deal at your local market, please leave a comment at the bottom of the article letting us know. That way, fellow readers in your local area can take advantage of the offer you've flagged up. Thanks!

Tipple

At Sainsbury's you can currently pick 12 330ml bottles of Budweiser for £8 (usual price £13.30). Also at Sainsbury's, four 330ml bottles of Stella Artois are now priced at £2, reduced from £3.99.

Morrisons has a better-than-half-price deal on Becks: You can now get six 275ml bottles for £3, reduced from £6.49. Just bear in mind it's a maximum of three packs per customer.

And finally, Marks & Spencer is currently offering 25% off all wine.

Voucher codes

You can now get £15 off your first online shop at WaitroseDeliver when you enter the code FEB229 at the checkout. As usual, terms and conditions apply: You'll need to spend a least £60, and have your goods delivered between now and 28th February.

You can only claim one discount per household - and remember that the WaitroseDeliver service isn't yet available everywhere in the UK.

You can still get £10 off your first online shop at Tesco when you enter the code XXAFFT at the checkout.

Just remember that you'll need to spend at least £50 to qualify for the discount; and the code is not valid on the delivery charge, cigarettes, baby milk or prescription medications.

Voucher code promotions tend to be withdrawn quickly. If you've missed out on these, you can use the following websites to track down new voucher codes as and when they come up:

And finally... find yourself an allotment!

Spring is (we hope) just around the corner, so now is the time to dust off those wellies and drag out that spade ready for growing your own fruit and veg in 2010.

ALDI is currently selling two year-old fruit trees for just £3.99 each, so there's really no excuse!

If you don't have a patch of land to your name, why not join the ranks of enthusiasts nurturing allotments? Your local council is a good place to start looking; many have databases of available plots, though in some areas the waiting lists can be long.

You can find contact information for your local council here. And for lots of advice on finding and tending an allotment, visit this specialist website.

Every effort is made to source voucher codes which are valid at the time this article is published. However, please be aware that lovemoney.com cannot guarantee that every voucher will be valid or that it will not be withdrawn by the provider immediately.

Typical - trying to be frugal today I popped to the local market to get some fruit, one pineapple and one melon for £2 ...thought I was doing well until I saw the JS deal above. Oh well, it's still miles cheaper than the individual pre-packed portions at £2-£3 a pop!

Saw a nice deal at JS in the week, Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer is 2 bottles for £3 (norm £2.03 each). If you're purchasing at a regular price, Asda is cheaper at £1.97 a bottle. Lovely over ice - will be great for BBQs.

Tesco (Sutton Cheam Park) are offering two 8-packs of Actimel for £3 (usually £2.47 per pack or 2 for £4). Not sure of closing date for this offer, but I believe it's still on during the week ahead.
