Best supermarket deals

This week, I'm going to start with the best deals at Sainsbury's. There are some good 2 for 1 deals in the fruit and veg section, including two 150g boxes of blueberries for £2.49, and two 350g bunches of asparagus for £2.99.

At the dairy counter, Pilgrims Choice mature cheddar (500g) is half-price at £2.49. And several varieties of Butcher's Choice sausages are also 50% off - at 99p rather than £1.99 a pack.

At Tesco there are currently 2 for 1 deals on Bitesize Shredded Wheat, Shreddies and Cheerios. You can also pick up 27 Penguin bars for £1.49, reduced from the usual £2.98.

Finally, there are some good 2 for 1 deals on 10-packs of Nik Naks and Skips, and on 12-packs of Mini Cheddars

Over at ASDA, there's still a great deal on a range of Goodfella's pizzas: They're all less than half-price, with several varieties reduced from £2.48 to just £1.

There's also a 2 for 1 offer on a range of Kraft dressings and sauces, like this Italian dressing. It means you can pick up any two bottles for just £1.

And there's a better-than-half-price deal on Kellogg's Special K Fruit & Nut. 425g boxes usually cost £2.89, but they're currently on sale for just £1.

Morrisons has some great deals on 'cupboard essentials' this week. These include 240 Tetley tea bags for £2.20, and 1kg of sugar for just 49p.It's also offering half-price rump steak, currently selling at £5.74 per kg.

Somerfield has now become part of The Co-operative 'family', so the same deals tend to appear in both places. This week 240g packs of Young's salmon fillets are half their normal price, at £2.49; and there's also 50% off 1.2kg unsmoked British gammon joints, at £5 each.

Finally, the top deals at LIDL include white seedless grapes at £1.59 per kg and cherry tomatoes at 39p per 250g pack.

There are sometimes much better deals on offer at street markets and independent shops than there are at the supermarkets. Unfortunately, their local nature makes it impossible for us to cover them properly here.

If you've come across a great food deal at your local market, please do leave a comment at the bottom of the article letting us know. That way, fellow readers in your local area can take advantage of the offer you've flagged up. Thanks!

Tipple

At ASDA, Pierre Darcys Non Vintage Brut Champagne has been reduced from £23.98 to just £12 a bottle.

And there's still time for wine lovers to check out the latest offer from P&O Ferries: For £19, you can now buy a return ticket (for a car and up to nine people) for a day trip from Dover to Calais. And as part of the deal, you'll be able to claim a FREE case of Ernest & Julio Gallo Winemaker's Seal wine (red or white).

You'll need to collect your six free bottles of wine on your outward journey, from your ferry's onboard shop.

The offer is valid for travel between now and 25th March (excluding 12th, 13th, 20th and 21st February). However, you'll need to book before 10th February to get the deal; and this offer is only available online.

As usual, make sure you read all the terms and conditions carefully, as some restrictions apply. You can find out more about the offer on this page of the P&O Ferries website.

And finally... grow your own in 2010

If you want to try growing your own frugal fruit and vegetables in 2010, now is a good time to get organised.

Deep discounter ALDI is doing some great gardening deals at the moment, including a wide range of vegetable seeds at just 35p a packet.

The Royal Horticultural Society has also produced a free 2010 veg planner for you to print out, so you can work out exactly what you should be planting, thinning out and harvesting when.

Good luck!
