Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Food. As ever, let's kick off with the latest supermarket deals.
Best supermarket and shop deals
Tesco
At Tesco spend £20 either in store or online before Wednesday 25th July and you get a £5 off voucher for your next £40 shop (to use between Thursday 26th July and Sunday 5th August 2012). Read all about it here.
Look out for Tesco Alfresco Salad for £1.30 (was £1.60), a massive 5kg of Tesco Brown Onions for £1.49 (was £1.99), four baby avocadoes for £1 (was £1.50), four Tesco Organic Peaches for £1.50 (was £2), twin pack of red gem lettuce for 75p (was £1), Tesco Spinach for £1 (was £1.75), Tesco Sweet Pointed Peppers for £1 (was £1.65) and treat yourself to 1kg of Jordan River Zahidi Dates for £2.49 (was £2.99) and 750g of Aasani Almonds for £3.99 (was £4.99).
Grab some bulk buy bargains too with two for one on Laila Basmati Rice, so you get 10kg of rice for £6.99, 18-packs of Skips crisps for £2.09 (was £4.19), Branston Baked Beans and Spaghetti four-packs for £1.27 (was £2.55), 625g of Sugar Puffs for £1.49 (was £2.98) and McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Triple Packs for £1.54 (was £3.09).
New online shoppers can save £10 on a £50 spend with code XXAFFT, which expires on 31st August.
Sainsbury’s
For only £1 grab five-packs of Kellogg's Special K Bliss Bars (was £1.99), McVitie’s Fruit Cake (was £1.45), big bags of Hula Hoops (was £1.85), Patak’s Cooking Sauce (was £1.76), and various pasta salad pots (was £1.79).
It’s also two for £7 on Pizza Express 12’’ pizzas (was £5 each), Sainsbury's Silverskin Onions are reduced to 74p (was £1.49), Sainsbury's 2L Mild & Light Olive Oil is £4.13 (was £6.21). In the veg section, pick up two Sainsbury's Red Mini Cos Lettuces for £1 (was £1.30), 350g of celery for £1 (was £1.10), 750g of Taste the Difference Anya Potatoes for £1 (was £1.50), Taste the Difference Jubilee Large Vine Tomatoes for £1.70 (was £2), 300g of Mini Portabella Mushrooms for £1 (was £1.70), and 500g of Garden Peas for £1.50 (was £3).
New Sainsbury’s shoppers can head to Vouchercodes.co.uk to use the exclusive code MQKH-X3DR-NQKJ saving them £10 on orders over £50 until 30th July.
Otherwise, code RJDG-CHYR-CFHG knocks £10 off grocery spends over £60, valid until Tuesday 2nd October and YR6N-3JM4-7DKD knocks £15 off a £80 spend, valid until Saturday 4th August.
Asda
Loose fruit and veg bargains include beef tomatoes for 55p each (was 64p), garlic bulbs and limes for 27p each (was 30p), green cabbages for 68p (was 76p), plus buy salad cress for 21p (was 24p), packs of seven Extra Special Jazz Apples for £2 (was £2.50), little gem lettuce for 78p (was 88p) and Chinese leaf lettuce for £1.08 (was £1.20).
In the freezer section, 1kg bags of Chosen by You Freshly Frozen Broccoli Florets are £1.17 (was £1.30), 680g of Roasting Parsnips are 97p (was £1.08), 500g bags of Oriental Vegetables Stir Fry are £1.30 (was £1.50) and for some fries, 750g bags of Chosen by You Curly Fries Oven Cook are £1.24 (was £1.38) and 907g bags of McCain Southern Fries are £1.76 (was £1.96).
Get free delivery at Asda on any order worth £99 with the code AMFD2799, valid until 31st August.
Lidl
All four of the half-price weekend deals at Lidl are under £1 this week (available on Saturday and Sunday only) – there are strong rumours of some sun this weekend so get in quick with red peppers and British iceberg lettuce for 39p each, 8-packs of Glenview Farm sausages for 47p and an instant BBQ for only 99p!
Morrisons
Buitoni Eliche 1kg is better than half-price at £1 (was £2.29) and you save 50% on Napolina Olives 190g (now 99p), Cirio Passata 700g (now 87p), Napolina cans of Chopped/ Peeled Plum Tomatoes (now 61p) and Ainsley Harriot Cup Soup (now 57p).
Ribena 1 litre is also half-price at £1.43 and 6-packs of Evian Mineral Water 500ml are reduced to £1.06, plus its 2 for £1.50 on Welchs Purple/White Grape 1 litre (was £1.39 each) and 2 for £3 on Jucee No Added Sugar Squash 3 litre (was £2.75 each). See more deals here.
Waitrose
Spend £50 or more in store at Waitrose between now and 25th July and you'll get a voucher for 5p off per litre of fuel at Shell. It also has two for £4 on packs of grapes and two for £4 on a selection of deli products.
Marks & Spencer
M&S has an Indian or Chinese takeaway meal for two deal for £8 until 31st July. Choose two mains and two sides. It also has three for £10 on selected meat and poultry, three for two on selected marinades, rubs and dressings, and buy one, get one half-price on various frozen foods.
Ocado
First time Ocado shoppers can use VOU1304996 for £10 off first orders over £50 (expires 31st Dec). There is also a new Ocado Summer Sale with up to 50% off until 16th August.
Westin Gourmet
Finally, check out the special offers this week from online gourmet butcher Westin Gourmet which includes 15% off 18 x 83g Lincolnshire Sausages (now £6.50) and 20% off 1kg of diced chicken breast fillets (now £6.39).
Voucher codes and coupons
Before you hit the supermarkets, check for any money-saving coupons:
- Save 50p on two-litre cartoon of Cravendale Milk when you Like Thomas Cook on Facebook and enter their competition to win a four-star mini-break to London – this will give you access to a free printable voucher.
- Use this Co-Operative voucher to save 99p on 4x34g pack of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Squares by Rocky Road. Use in a Co-op store by 31st August.
- McCain is offering three vouchers saving you 50p on McCain Rustic Chips, McCain Micro Chips and McCain Wedges.
- Save 25p on a pack of Pork Farms Pork Pies on page 10 of MumsSurvivalGuides, expires 31st August.
- If you fancy trying Sharwood’s Wrap Kits range, save 50p with this free voucher, valid until 31st August.
Or if you’re shopping online, cut costs with these codes:
- Get a free Best of British Chocolate Collection when you spend over £15 at Thorntons – add it to your basket and enter the code FBBA at the checkout before it expires on Sunday 22nd July.
- Save 15% on orders at Moko Chocolates with code JULY2012 which you must use by Wednesday 1st August.
- Knock 10% off orders over £25 at Hotel Chocolat with code VCSUM10, expires 31st August.

Cheap tipple
New offers at Majestic Wine include Fairleigh Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Marlborough for £7.49 (although if you buy two still New Zealand wines you save 20% marking this down to £5.99), Heidsieck Gold Top Vintage 2005 for £20 (was £28) and Laurent-Perrier Brut NV Champagne for £25 (was £35). And, delivery is free if you spend over £40 on at least six bottles.
Save 25% on selected rose wine at Waitrose this week, delivered by 24th July.
