Money off the food they already overcharge for anyway?

Forget the Supermarkets, buy local, at least you know some of the money will stay in the local area!

Frugal Food as a blog has existed for at least two years, and it has always included restaurant deals, as well as supermarket deals.

There's also links to our Frugal Recipes blog for people who want to cook at home.

Most of the restaurant chains quoted are centred on London and larger cities and nearest are 20 plus miles from my home - if they are in the North of the country at all. When you factor in travelling at parking there would be nothing frugal for the majority of readers in taking up the offers, unfortunately. Chains like Nandos and Flaming Dragon do seem to offer great value consistently and I will drive the 15 miles to get to them. I'm not averse to eating out when the food is good. I do avoid Chiquitos at all costs - their take on Mexican food is garbage.

Asda gets worse, who wants 2 bags of oranges or 5 coconuts. A free bag of potatoes when you buy a chicken might help some families.

I wrote about growing your own and making your own wine today, now that is inexpensive - http://wp.me/p194MF-Zj

@electricblue, I go to Chiquitos! I never go in, I just use the free car park!

I must admit that some of the offers listed are rather esoteric. Not the usual run-of- the mill food to feed a family for a week. Where is the cheap butter, cheese, minced beef, pork chops, chicken portions, vegetables, flour and tea?

But you only report what supoermarkets have on offer so there is the catch. Supermarkets won't discount 'proper' foodstuffs but those that they want to promote as where the margin is very high and , frequently, the value is very low. Most of the offer food above is totally unnecessary and would never find its way into our house.

As for eating out what about JD Wetherspoon? They are a bargain every day of the week.

JD Wetherspoon gets my vote too. Probably a little down-market for the likes of Chiara, though. I do always find the 'posh bird' take on frugality interesting, in a 'What planet is she on?' kind of way!

@Mike - Many of those at the lower end of household income would not know how to cook a potato. For the dumb, feckless and lazy it's cooked when they hear a 'ping'. I do know that many of our recent immigrants from Eastern Europe live like royalty here because they take advantage of reduced items with military style organisation and cook good food from scratch. Our country would do a lot worse than to look at some of the cultures of Eastern Europe and make big changes to our education system. The worthless BS taught in our secondary schools is getting beyond a joke. My oldest son is 18 and I am sick of finding out really basic things which he was never taught at school.

@electricblue no need to get personal, although some of my mates would laugh out loud if they knew you called me a posh bird! I will endeavour to add the better Weatherspoons deals as and when they come up for you.

I don't pick supermarket or restaurant deals based on my personal choice, just the best deals that I come across no matter what the type of food/place it is and however posh/not posh I or you think it is - and remember I can't include every supermarket offer and certainly not ones that don't exist!

It's great that you guys can add your own frugal finds in the comments space here, that's what it's for and I like to think lovemoney.com readers are happy to help each other!

    thanks
