Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Food. We've got new and extended restaurant deals from Strada, Giraffe, GBK, Café Rouge, Prezzo and Chiquito plus 2 for 1 on mains at Bella Italia and 25% off your food bill at Ask. Plus see what you can nab in the M&S wine sale, which includes half-price cases of champagne, save 25% on all rioja at Waitrose, save £15 when you spend £60 on wine at Tesco, save 20% on tea at Whittard and get a free box of chocs worth £10.99 when you spend £20 at Thorntons!

Best supermarket deals

We’re going to kick off with the Super Six at Aldi – this week grab a cauliflower, cabbage, 1kg of carrots, 350g of broccoli, 1kg of onions and 350g of celery – all for just 49p each! The meat bargains are 50p off Butcher’s Choice sausages (now 99p) and 50p off British Extra Premium bacon (now £1.49).

Over at LIDL save 50p on 400g blocks of Valley Spire cheddar cheese (now £1.99), save 20p on savoy cabbages (now 39p), save 30p on 12-packs of Mini Cheddars (now £1.49) and save 26p on 1kg of chicken drumsticks (now £1.99). And, don’t miss the half-price weekend deals – available on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September only – which includes 375g of diced chicken breast now £1.49, 1kg bags of apples for 64p, Jacobs Biscuits for Cheese selection for 92p and Premium Kabanossi for 89p.

ASDA’s best bargains this week include 2 for £2 on Goodfella’s Deep Pan pizzas (usually £1.50 each), 1kg of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter for £1.98 (was £2.25) and 400g of ASDA English mature cheddar for £2 (was £2.76). If you’re planning a roast, grab boneless pork leg for £3 per kg (was £5.97 per kg), ASDA whole leg of lamb for £7.50 per kg (was £9.99 per kg), or two 1.45kg whole chickens for £7 (usually £4.77 each).

For a weekend treat, McVities Snickers Flapjacks are reduced from £1.34 to 75p, Rowntree’s Randoms are reduced from £1.52 to 75p, McCoys multipacks are reduced from £1.70 to £1 and Maryland cookies are reduced from £1.39 to £1.

If you want to stock up, Maryland cookies are 3 for 2 at Sainsbury’s so you only pay £2.58 for three packets. Other deals to keep an eye out for include 2 for £6 on Flora Pro-Activ Olive (500g), saving you £1.60, 300ml tubs of extra thick double cream for only £1 (was £1.30) and 600g family packs of Cathedral City mature cheddar for £4 (was £5.19).

If you fancy a bit of lamb this weekend, 380g of organic lamb chops have £1 off at £5, lamb half leg joints are only £7.99 per kg, Taste the Difference Welsh Hill Carvery legsof lamb (approx 1kg) are reduced from £12.49 to £10.49 and you need even more meat, Sainsbury’s whole lamb legs (approx 1.93kg) are also on offer at £15.42 (was £21.21) working out to £7.99 per kg.

Also, head over to the fruit and veg aisle and for only £1 you can buy five Sainsbury’s Conference pears (was £1.70), a bag of six Cox’s apples (was £2), four fresh figs (was £2), six kiwis (was £1.25), five oranges (was £2) and a medium pineapple (was £1.25).

Last of the big three, Tesco has some strong 3 for 2 offers on lots of tasty items including La Brea Bakery olive oval loaf (usually £1.80 each), Tesco Finest triple chocolate shortbread (usually £1.60 each) and various fruit and veg such as Ripe and Ready avocadoes (usually £1.85 each), punnets of organic raspberries (usually £2.99 each) and organic baby plum tomatoes (usually £1.60 each).

Various cheeses have been reduced too – buy Boursin and Boursin Poivre for £1.46 (was £2.18), Castello Reserve Herrgard and Prast for £2 (was £2.49), President Brie for £1.25 (was £1.65), Pilgrim’s Choice Double Gloucester for £3 (was £3.49) and Primula for £1 (was £1.30).

Finally, check out the 5 special offers this week from online gourmet butcher Westin Gourmet which includes 15% off Lincolnshire sausages (now £6.49 for 18), 19% off unsmoked horseshoe gammon (now £25.35 for a 5.1kg joint), 23% off corn fed chicken supremes (now £1.97 each) and 28% off French brie (now £14.22 for 1kg).

Tipple

Head to the Marks and Spencer website now for an end of season sale with up to a third off wine; top offers include half-price champagne, now £15 per bottle when you buy a case of 6 (reduced to £90), a case of Colle Del Principe Prosecco 2010 for £39.96 (was £59.94), or Marqués Del Costal 2005 for £47.94 (was £59.94) and Chablis Louis Moreau 2008 for £53.94 (was £65.94).
Also at Waitrose Wine Direct you can save 25% on all Rioja including Baron de Ley, Club Privado 2008, now £73.80 for a case of 12 (£6.15 per bottle), Cune 2006 Reserva, now £102.48 for a case of 12 (£8.54 per bottle) and Muga Rosado 2010, now £72.48 for 12 (£6.04 per bottle).

Cut-price snacks

Sign up to the Campbell’s Soup newsletter to become a Campbell’s Favourite, and they will send you a money-off voucher towards a tin of their soup.

Get £1 off your next purchase of 500g Honey Shreddies with this voucher valid until 31st December 2011.

Don’t forget to visit the Krispy Kreme Facebook page for 2 for 1 doughnuts until Sunday 2nd October. Simply enter your name and email address, then wait for the voucher to be sent to you. This offer is valid on Glamour Glaze doughnuts only and is not available at Tesco, Moto, WHSmiths and Welcome Break. Feel free to print the voucher as many times as you like, but you will only be able to use it once per day.

Voucher codes

Thorntons is offering a free box of chocs worth £10.99 with orders of £20 or more – you need to add this 430g box of Premium Collection to your basket and enter the code PCSD at the checkout to get the price deducted. Offer valid until Sunday 25th September.

Over at Whittard  you can save 20% on all teas using the promo code TEA20 at the checkout.

And from last week…Get £15 off when you spend £60 as a new customer at Tesco Wine – use the code XPRKN from Vouchercodes.co.uk which expires 25th September.

If you’re a new Tesco grocery shopper enter the code XX3PKK when you spend at least £50 and you’ll earn 1,000 Clubcard points (offer ends 31st October). You can also use the code XXXNGP at the checkout (valid until 30th September) for £10 off when you spend £50 on groceries at Tesco as a new customer – but remember that certain items - including wine by the case, tobacco, infant milk formulae and prescription medicines - are not eligible for the discount.

Other ongoing codes include Tang for 25% off tea orders at Birt and Tang, expires 30th September. You can get 10% off when you spend at least £20 at Hotel Chocolat – use the code VCSUM10 before 2nd October.

Then check the latest Pizza Hut codes, taking care to use the right one for your order; use VCPZDELDQ for 2 for 1 pizzas with a side (add all the items to your basket first), VCP9W4YDH for 25% off orders over £25 which expire 9th October. There is also the code VCFP11TTS for £10 off orders from the full price menu over £25 (expires 27th November).

Elsewhere you can get 25% off when you spend £25 at Papa Johns with PJES25OFF, also for the weekends only (Friday to Sunday), buy an XL pizza and get a free side order with code AAPJWTPXS and if it’s your first order, you can save 33% with code AALDN33.

New Ocado shoppers can still save £15 when they spend at least £75 and use the code VOU1146975, which is valid until 30th November.

AreYouPeckish.co.uk offers snack packs delivered to your office or home and as with its rival Graze.com you can get your first pack for free using the ongoing code peckish3.
