Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Food. We’ve got new and extended restaurant deals from Ask, Pizza Hut, Yates's, The Real Greek, Café Rouge, Prezzo, La Tasca and Henry’s Café Bar, plus 2 for 1 on Pizza Express mains and 50% off for you and a mate at Slug and Lettuce. Other deals include free Greggs snacks with the Daily Express, £5 off a £20 spend at Whittard, £15 off a £75 spend at Sainsbury’s, 1,000 Clubcard points for new Tesco grocery customers,, free Walkers Sunbites on Facebook and free pudding with mains courtesy of the National Trust!

Best supermarket deals

We’re going to kick off with the best deals at Tesco. This week (until 11th September only) grab various vegetables for a mere 50p including chantenay carrots (500g), jacket potatoes (750g) and savoy cabbage. It’s also 3 for 2 on various bags of fruit and veg such as organic Braeburn apples (usually £2 each), two organic avocadoes (usually £1.85 each) and 750g of sweet potatoes (usually £2 each).

If you want a box of chocolates treat yourself to 1kg of Quality Street, half-price at £5. Or, try McVities Temptations which are on a 2 for 1 offer costing only £1.79 for two boxes (choose from Belgian white chocolate and truffle, milk chocolate and hazelnut and milk chocolate and praline. Wash down those treats with a nice cuppa – it’s BOGOF on both Twinings Sunshine Grey (so you only pay £2.39 for 100 teabags) and Douwe Egberts Pure Gold Medium Roast Freeze Dried Coffee (usually costing £6.59 each).

Next up at ASDA you can save 85p on Phileas Fogg crisps (Irish cheddar and onion chutney or sea salt and balsamic vinegar) which are now £1 each. Garlic bread baguettes and ciabatta have 25p off at £1, Tick Tock Rooibus teabags are cheapest at ASDA costing only £2.56 (was £3.41) and if you’re getting ready for roast dinners again, buy two jars of ASDA Extra Special goose fat for £4 (saving you 40p).

Lots of Kellogg’s cereal packs have been reduced too – Coco Pops (550g) are down from £2.69 to £2, Frosties (750g) and Just Right (500g) are both down from £2.68 to £2 and Special K (500g) is down from £2.99 to £2.

If you want Crunchy Nut cornflakes (500g), however, Sainsbury’s offers the lowest price of £1.19, saving you a not-too-shabby £1.20. Other bargains include Taste the Difference Wiltshire ham half-price at £1.49, snack sausage rolls (12 per pack) for £1, saving you 99p, and Vimto cherry three-packs on a 3 for 2 deal (usually 99p each) – other drinks packs are included such as Ribena (usually £2.59 for ten) and Calypso Juice Shots (£1.69 for 12).

Keep an eye out for Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Living Micro Leaf Garlic Chives too – at an introductory price of 50p – and 2 for £2 deals on various puds until 20th September including limoncello desserts, apple crème desserts and caramel panna cotta which otherwise cost £1.45 each.

Over at LIDL grab 750g of red onions for 39p (was 67p), pointed cabbage for 39p (was 59p), British beef roasting joints for £3.99 per kg (was £6.99), 540g packs of chicken breast fillets for £3.29 (was £3.99) and 400g packs of edam cheese for £1.59 (was £1.89). Other deals include 2 for £1.50 on houmous topped with green olives or harissa (saving you 48p), McVitie’s Gold Bars for 99p (saving you 41p) and 2 for £2 on Branston pickle (saving you 78p).

For the half-price weekend deals you can buy 1kg of baby new potatoes for 49p, 18-packs of Hula Hoops for £1.39, Fin Carre milk chocolate for 19p and 1.5L cartons of orange juice for 56p. Only available this Saturday and Sunday.

Finally, check out the 5 special offers this week from online gourmet butcher Westin Gourmet which includes 30% off pork and garlic sausages (now £5.63 for 18), 30% off boneless leg of British lamb (now £27.05 for a 2kg roasting joint) and 36% off corn fed chicken (now £9.08 for a 1.5kg bird).

Tipple

LIDL is worth a visit for cheap booze this weekend – grab 6-packs of Strongbow cider for £4.29 (£1.50 off), 4-packs of Rekorderlig pear cider for £3.49, Churchwards cider for 89p (was 99p), 6-packs of Perlenbacher Pils for £5.29 (was £5.99) and 2 for £3 on large beers (saving you 58p).

NETTO has come up trumps again this week with bottles of Jack Daniels or Courvoisier for £14.99, Baileys for £8 and packs of Stella Artois (12 x 440ml) or Carling (15 x 440ml) for £10, saving you £2.49.

Cut-price snacks

There are free Greggs snacks up for grabs with the Daily Express every day until Sunday 11th September. On Friday, you can use your voucher to get a coffee and cupcake, on Saturday get a fresh Greggs loaf and on Sunday a steak or chicken bake.

Don’t forget to visit the Krispy Kreme Facebook page for 2 for 1 doughnuts until Sunday 2nd October. Simply enter your name and email address, then wait for the voucher to be sent to you. This offer is valid on Glamour Glaze doughnuts only and is not available at Tesco, Moto, WHSmiths and Welcome Break. Feel free to print the voucher as many times as you like, but you will only be able to use it once per day.

Voucher codes

Whittard has a new code saving you £5 when you spend £20 or more – use the code WTAW5 at the checkout.

First-time shoppers spending £75 online can save £15 at Sainsburys Groceries using the code 67VV-YKRY-6FMF, which expires 20th September.

Another new one this week is available for new Tesco grocery shoppers – enter the code XX3PKK when you spend at least £50 and you’ll earn 1,000 Clubcard points (offer ends 31st October).

Also, you can use the code XXXNGP at the checkout (valid until 30th September) for £10 off when you spend £50 on groceries at Tesco as a new customer – but remember that certain items - including wine by the case, tobacco, infant milk formulae and prescription medicines - are not eligible for the discount.

Other ongoing codes include Tang for 25% off tea orders at Birt and Tang, expires 30th September. You can get 10% off when you spend at least £20 at Hotel Chocolat – use the code VCSUM10 before 2nd October.

Then check the latest Pizza Hut codes, taking care to use the right one for your order; get 50% off when you spend £40 or more at full menu price (excludes drinks and ice creams) with the code AFDFTYRJI, valid until 18th Sept. Other codes include VCPZDELDQ for 2 for 1 pizzas with a side (add all the items to your basket first), VCP9W4YDH for 25% off orders over £25 which expire 9th October. There is a code VCTENPTNY for £10 off orders over £30 (also expires 9th October) but you still have time to use the code AFDTENPPY for £10 off orders over £25, which expires 18th September.

Elsewhere you can get 25% off when you spend £25 at Papa Johns with PJES25OFF, also for the weekends only (Friday to Sunday), buy an XL pizza and get a free side order with code AAPJWTPXS and if it’s your first order, you can save 33% with code AALDN33.

New Ocado shoppers can still save £15 when they spend at least £75 and use the code VOU1146975, which is valid until 30th November.

AreYouPeckish.co.uk offers snack packs delivered to your office or home and as with its rival Graze.com you can get your first pack for free using the ongoing code peckish3.
