Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Food. We’ve got new and extended restaurant deals from Yates, Chiquito, Brasserie Gerard, Strada, Ask, Prezzo and Slug and Lettuce. Plus Dine in for Two for £10 at Marks & Spencer this weekend, grab better than half-price wine at Morrisons, save 50p on GLORIOUS! Soups and Pasta Sauces, save 15% at Moko Chocolates, get 50% off at Pizza Hut Delivery, get a free Chicago Town pizza and win a year’s supply of Millies Cookies!

 Best supermarket deals

This week we’re going to kick off with the latest Dine in for Two for £10 offer at Marks & Spencer. Available mains include steak, whole chickens and mussels in garlic, and for the wine try Rose Zinfandel Frizzante, Sangiovese or Inzoglia Pinot Grigio. See the full menu here. The Dine in for Two offer is valid until Tuesday 30th August.

At the Co-op top deals include half-price Co-op beef rump steak, now £6.79 per kg, 2 for £5 on Elmwood British chicken thighs, drumsticks, and legs and 2 for £6 on various meat packs such as boneless pork belly ribs with a salt and pepper glaze and hot and spicy loin shoulder steaks.

The Co-op is also offering a BOGOF deal on both Coca Cola (six-can packs) at £3.35 and Cathedral City Cheddar (350g) at £4.39, or you can save 50% on own-brand blueberries, raspberries and strawberries now £2 per punnet (various weights). If you fancy plums instead, you can also get 500g half-price, now just £1.50.

Next, LIDL is offering two fresh, prime beef fillet steaks for £7.99, 1kg packs of chicken leg quarters for £1.89, Newsholmes boozy banger sausages (400g) for £1.49, Young’s Chip Shop Specials for £1.99 and pork loin medallions (300g) for £2.39, saving you 40p per pack. For some greens, save 33% on spring onions, now 39p and save 43% on savoy cabbages, now 39p, while you can also buy a family-sized block (550g) of Wykke Farms extra mature cheddar for only £2.99.

Also this weekend only, the half-price deals include 200g packs of cooked sliced chicken, now 99p, fresh vine tomatoes, now 99p per kg, Mexican Discovery wraps, now 79p and 400g of sweet and crunchy salad, now 50p.

Morrisons is well worth a visit this week too – 500g punnets of yellow plums are half-price at 49p, four-packs of salad tomatoes are 49p (was 60p) and bags of Royal Gala apples (expect at least five apples) are 49p, saving you a handy £1.20! Other bargains include 50% off both Morrisons king prawns, now £1.74 and Old El Paso Original Smoky Fajita Dinner Kits, now £1.49 and BOGOF on Montorsi Parma Ham 70g at £2.99.

Heading over to the first of the big three, Sainsbury’s is offering 50p off both Kerrygold Lighter Spreadable with Olive Oil (500g), now £2.10, and 6 Twix Caramel Slices, now £1. Half-price bargains include Danish Sizzling Unsmoked Back Bacon (12 rashers) for £2, Tropicana Still Lemonade (900ml) for £1.12 and Red Lion Foods breaded ham for £1.
Also, if you’re baking with the kids this bank holiday, you can save 33% on various cake-making and decorating goodies such as Dr. Oetker Giant Chocolate Stars (now 92p), Sainsbury's Eric & Erica Sprinkles (now 72p) and Sainsbury's Pink Glitter Sugar (now 72p ).

The best buys at Tesco are Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream for only £2.22 each (was £4.45) – in Sainsbury’s these are on a 2 for £8 offer so stock up on your favourite flavour before the offer ends on 6th September. If you’re looking for £1 bargains you can buy 200g of Sunstream tomatoes on the vine, 260g of spinach and 200g of organic chestnut mushrooms - these offers are due to expire on 28th August so don’t miss out.

Other £1 deals include 250g packs of Tesco beef mince, was £1.14, Bird’s Eye chicken fingers (ten per pack), was £1.34, Bird’s Eye mini potato waffles (26 per pack), was £1.99, Hovis Best of Both (800g), was £1.15, and Red Dog Frankfurters (10 per pack), was £2.

Over at ASDA grab Tiger tin loaves for 75p (was £1), Butcher’s Selection sirloin steaks for £12 per kg (was £16 per kg), ASDA 1.5kg sausage and bacon packs for £5 (was £6) and ASDA green pesto / sun-dried tomato red pesto for 84p (was 98p). if you’re looking for a quick cheat’s lunch, all the various Super Noodles are now only 40p each (was 69p), Batchelors Pasta ‘n’ Sauces are also 40p (was 95p) and ASDA own-brand 400g tins of soup are only 46p each (was 52p).

If you’re looking for an after-dinner treat this Bank Holiday, various ASDA Extra Special hand-finished cakes are on offer. Choose from carrot cake, coffee cake and strawberry & Belgian white chocolate, all reduced from £1.98 to £1.50.

Finally, check out the 5 special offers this week from online gourmet butcher Westin Gourmet which includes 57% off French Brie (now £8.04 for a 1kg wheel), 23% off smoked streaky bacon (now £9.95 for a 2.27kg pack) and 20% off a huge 1.5kg joint of Australian ribeye steak (now £35.96).

Tipple

Morrisons is offering some of the best booze deals this weekend with better than half-price deals on various bottles including First Cape Winemakers Chenin Chardonnay, Rose and Cabernet, all reduced from to £9.19 to £4, Rosemount Reserve Shiraz Grenache, reduced from £9.99 to £4.49 and Lagunilla Rioja Reserva 2006, reduced from £12.49 to £5.99.

It’s also 2 for £14 on packs of beer and cider such as Stella Artois (12x284ml), San Miguel (12x275ml) and Strongbow (12x440ml) – all usually cost £10 each so you save yourself a not-too-shabby £6.

There is also an ongoing Summer Drinks Event at ASDA so look out for 3 for £5 on selected 500ml ciders such as Savanna Dry, usually £1.84 each, and 5 for £5 on pre-mix cans such as Archers Schnapps and Lemonade, Bacardi Superior and Cola and Jack Daniels and Cola. These usually cost from £1.75 each.

ASDA has also rolled back the cost of various 1L bottles of popular spirits including Morgan’s Spiced Rum, reduced from to £20.95 to £16, Smirnoff Red Label, reduced from £21.48 to £16 and Gordon’s Special Dry gin, also reduced from £21.48 to £16.

Cut-price snacks

New this week, head to Beforeishop for the latest supermarket coupons including 50p off GLORIOUS! Soups and Pasta Sauces and remember there’s not long left to claim 30p off a 500g tub of Utterly Butterly – take this coupon to your local store before it expires 3rd September. 

Vouchers still going from last week:

• Save 50p on all Rude Health breakfasts at Waitrose and select Tesco stores – get your coupon when you fill in your details here. Or if you’re a tea and toast person in the morning, save 30p on a 500g tub of Utterly Butterly with this coupon, which you must use by 3rd September.
• Dog owners save £5 on a 12.5kg sack of Burgess Superdog Sensitive with this voucher (offer expires 30th November).
• And, at Westfield Shopping Centre, London, download these vouchers for various food deals including 15% off at Burger King, a free doughnut and chiller with any doughnut or chiller purchase at Krispy Kreme, 20% off at GBK, 50% off at Buttercup Cake Shop and 30% off at Italian gelato shop Zaza. All offers valid until 4th September.

Voucher codes

If you missed last week’s code for 10% off at Hotel Chocolat don’t panic – you can use the code VCSUM10 for 10% off when you spend at least £20 – this deal doesn’t expire until 2nd October so there’s plenty of time to browse through all those yummy chocs.

If nothing takes your fancy remember you can still save 15% on any order at Moko Chocolates with the code AG15 which expires 1st September.

There are almost too many discount codes at Pizza Hut – so make sure you use the right one for your order. First up, get 50% off when you spend £40 or more at full menu price (excludes drinks and ice creams) with the code AFDFTYRJI, valid until 18th Sept. Other codes include VCPZDELDQ for 2 for 1 pizzas with a side (add all the items to your basket first) and VCP9W4YDH for 25% off orders over £25 which expire 9th October.

There is a code VCTENPTNY for £10 off orders over £30 (also expires 9th October), but you still have time to use the code AFDTENPPY for £10 off orders over £25, which expires 18th September.

Elsewhere you can get 25% off when you spend £25 at Papa Johns with PJES25OFF, also for the weekends only (Friday to Sunday), buy an XL pizza and get a free side order with code AAPJWTPXS and if it’s your first order, you can save 33% with code AALDN33.

Other ongoing deals include £10 off when first-time shoppers spend £50 online at Sainsburys Groceries using the code KQQN-Y7FX-LG4F, which expires 31st August. New Ocado shoppers can still save £15 when they spend at least £75 and use the code VOU1146975, which is valid until 30th November.

Ongoing codes for groceries at Tesco save new customers £15 when they spend at least £50 – enter XXL4CR at the checkout (extended to Sunday 31st August) but remember that certain items - including wine by the case, tobacco, infant milk formulae and prescription medicines - are not eligible for the discount.

At Whittard you can still save 10% on your first order with the code AF10F.

AreYouPeckish.co.uk offers snack packs delivered to your office or home and as with its rival Graze.com you can get your first pack for free using the ongoing code peckish3.
