Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Food. We’ve got new and extended restaurant deals from Ask, Pizza Express, Zizzi, Strada, La Tasca, Toby Carvery, Chiquito, Frankie & Benny’s, Yo! Sushi and Dim t. Plus, save 20% on Chilean, Italian and Australian wine at Majestic Wine, buy two bottles of spirits for £20 at the Co-op, get £10 off your first wine order at Tesco, 50% off Easter leftovers at Hotel Chocolat and a free £40 wine voucher at Naked Wines!

Best supermarket deals

This week, we’re going to kick off with the best deals at Sainsbury’s, where you can buy two Innocent veg pots for £5 (usually £3.48 each). There are lots to choose from including Indian daal, Mexican veg, seasonal veg and Thai coconut curry. Innocent smoothies are on offer too – buy 2 for £4, saving you £1.84, with flavours such as kiwi, apple & lime, stawberry & banana and mango & passionfruit.

Other deals include £1.90 off 100 Twinings Earl Grey tea bags (now £2), £1 off when you buy two packs of Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference smoked salmon (choose from birch & juniper smoked salmon, chestnut smoked salmon  or oak smoked salmon) and 2 for £2 on Sun-Maid California raisins mini snacks (usually £1.53 each).  

There are some bargains on fruit and veg at Tesco  this week including 2 for £2 on loose mangos (usually £1.50 each), 4-packs of kiwi fruit (usually £1.20 each), packs of 3 courgettes (usually £1.75 each) and bags of Jersey Royal Company small potatoes (usually £1.99 each).

On to tins and jars, 200g of Dawtona tomato puree is on offer at 49p (was 99p), and you can buy 3 for £1.20 on Blue Dragon stir fry sauces such as oyster & spring onion or black bean. The Seeds of Change pasta sauces are also on offer, reduced from as much as £2.09 to just £1 – flavours include slow roasted garlic and chilli, sundried tomato and basil and basil, parmesan and cherry tomato.

Next up, check out ASDA’s best buys which include Mission deli wraps for £1 (was £1.52), Hello Kitty cupcakes also for £1 (was £1.50) and Napolina pasta at 2 for £1.50, although this is only valid on 500g packs of fusilli or penne.

In the fresh meat section, look out for the latest rollback deal – buy a pack of four chicken breasts for only £6, saving you £1.14, or ASDA’s Extra Special outdoor bred pork sausages reduced from £2.58 to £2.18, and British beef roasting joints reduced to just £4 per kg.

Morrisons top deals include Warburtons White Toastie Bread reduced to £1, down from £1.39, 6-packs of Muller Corner on a 2 for £2 deal (usually £3.29 each so this is a big saving), Ivy Vintage Reserve cheddar cheese half-price at £4.49 per kg, and 450g of rhubarb also half-price at £1.74.

There are a couple of better than half-price offers too – grab Strathcairn Scottish shortbread for £2.99 (was £6.99) and Fox’s Fabulously Special Tin for £4.50 (was £9.99) – plus it’s BOGOF on Gaea Kalamata pitted olives (£1.99 each), Ocean Spray original cranberry sauce (£1.09) and Borges Extra Virgin Olive Oil (£3.89).

Over at NETTO, the latest offers to watch out for are £1 Pringle pots, 6-packet bags of McCoys crisps which are also £1, BOGOF on both Pilgrim’s Choice cheese (£2 each) and Sherbourne thin pork sausages (£1.19 each), and this weekend only, a belly pork joint for only £3 per kg!

Then from Monday onward keep your eyes peeled for Cadbury treats on offer – options include packs of Flake, Dairy Milk, Buttons and Crunchie for £1 (four bars per pack), saving you 65p. You can also buy two Italian salad bags for £1.50, a 500g tub of Clover for £1,49 (was £2) and a massive 1.3kg of value bacon for just £4! 

Finally, this Saturday and Sunday only, LIDL is selling a 500g pack of lemons half-price at 39p and fresh British beef lean frying steak (340g) with 50% off at £1.14.

Otherwise, you can save 20p on cucumbers, now only 49p, save 30p on Dulano salami, now £1.29, and buy Nando’s Peri-Peri sauce or marinade on special offer at £1.49 each, Napolina pasta sauces for 99p each and a 300g bag of KP dry roasted peanuts for 89p, reduced from £1.24.

Tipple

New offers at Majestic Wine include 20% off Chilean wines, Australian wines and Italian wines when you buy any two bottles, and you can still get the same deal on wines from New Zealand.

At the Co-op, buy any two from a selection of spirits for only £20, including Archers, Bacardi, Gordon’s gin, Jose Cuervo and Morgan’s Spiced Rum. This offer is available until 10th May only so pop down to your nearest store this weekend.

Over at Tesco Wine get £10 off your first wine or champagne order over £50 with code XXH7F6, valid until 31st May.

Finally, you still have time to enter your postcode here on the Marstons Taverns website for a free Pimm's & lemonade or Gordon's Gin & tonic to celebrate the Royal Wedding. Redeem your free drink anytime before 11th May.

Best restaurant deals

Cut price snacks

Head over to the Jamie Oliver shop and check out the discounted items in the sale section including chocolate covered hazelnuts for £3.38, was £4.50, piccalilly for £3, was £4, and Children’s garden vouchers for £31.50, was £35. These vouchers can be redeemed for a box brimming full of baby organic vegetable plants including pumpkins, courgettes, strawberries, tomatoes, runner beans, borlotti beans, beetroot, peas, carrots, mixed lettuces, spinach and potatoes!

Don’t miss the end of season sale at Hotel Chocolat with at least 50% off Easter treats. There are some big savings to be made - for example, this handmade Easter egg sandwich is only £2.40 now, was £8, and this Nibblatron Easter Eggspose egg is £4.20, was £14.

And, at Thorntons you can still buy a massive 1kg of chocolates for just £15, reduced from £30. This End of Season Bundle has a best before end date of May 2011 so get scoffing!

Voucher codes

Spend over £50 at Thorntons (don’t forget the end of season bundle mentioned above is only £15) and get free delivery – saving you £3.95 – with code FRDA. This expires this Saturday 7th May so get in quick.

There’s a new code for Whittard this week – save 20% on all tea and coffee with the code MTC20 online until this Sunday 8th May only. However, there’s no point using this if you have yet to make the most of the ongoing Whittard code for 25% off any order with free delivery using the code WC24P. This expires on 30th May, but can only be used once per customer - so if you’ve already used it, make the most of the one above instead.

Save 10% on your first order at Best British Sweets with code new1 or if M&Ms are more your cup of tea, save £5 at the MyM&Ms website with code BIRTHDAY, valid until 31st May. Also, sign up for the Moko Chocolates newsletter and you’ll be sent a code for 10% off their products.

There’s an ongoing code for new Ocado customers to get £15 off their first shop when they spend at least £75. Use the code VOU1146975 at the checkout, valid until 30th November.

Tesco has extended its offer for £10 off your first online grocery shop. To get the discount, you’ll need to spend at least £50 and enter the code XXAFFT at the checkout, for delivery made before 31st May. Just bear in mind that certain items - including wine by the case, tobacco, infant milk formulae and prescription medicines - are not eligible for the discount.
