Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Food. We’ve got new and extended restaurant deals from Café Rouge, Ask, Pizza Hut, Prezzo, Dim t and La Tasca. Plus, save £10 on groceries at Sainsbury’s, get a whole cooked lobster for £5.99 at Lidl, buy 2 bottles of selected spirits for £26 at Tesco, get a free Treat Egg from Thorntons, a free scoop of ice-cream at Ben & Jerry’s and check out the latest bargains on cookware!

Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Food.

Best supermarket deals

This week, we’re going to kick off with some mega cheap LIDL deals. Buy a 250g pack of chestnut mushrooms for 50p (was 89p), 1kg of Granny Smith apples for 99p (was £1.29) and 2.5kg of Speciality potatoes for £1 (was £1.74).

You can also treat yourself to a whole cooked lobster for £5.99 and an Italian Prosciutto ham joint for £8.99 per kg. Combino durum wheat pasta is now only 39p for 500g bags (was 49p) – beating most of the big supermarkets hands down. Try slicing and frying some Salumeo salami with fennel seeds, which is on offer at £1.99 in Lidl, to add to your pasta sauce.

At Morrisons keep your eyes peeled for half-price Napolina chopped and plum tomatoes (4 x 400g tins) for £1.94, or the same amount of Cirio tomatoes, also half-price at £1.49.

Market Street half-price deals include 4 fresh sea bass (minimum weight 960g) for only £8 (was £16), British leg of pork for £3.99 per kg and 2kg of King Edward potatoes for £1! Heading over to the frozen section, Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream tubs also have 50% off at £2 and Dr Oetker Ristorante pizzas are 2 for £3.

For Sainsbury’s shopping, buy two of Jamie Oliver’s traditional red pesto jars (which are great with crème fraiche and chicken breasts) or green pesto jars for £2.50. These normally cost £2.18 each so you save a handy £1.86.

You can also grab two New Covent Garden soups for £3; there are lots of flavours to choose from including asparagus, chicken curry, broccoli and stilton, carrot and coriander, smoked haddock chowder and wild mushroom! For another tasty lunch, Branston Pickle is on offer – buy two jars (520g each) for £2 – and team it with selected Ryvita crispbreads which have been reduced to just £1 - including Black Pepper, sunflower seeds and oats and fruit crunch.

At Tesco selected 1kg bags of Naoplina pasta are included in a 2 for £3 offer (normally £2.19 each), Betty Crocker mixes are also 2 for £3 – choose from various packs such as blueberry muffin, chocolate buttercream icing and vanilla butter icing - which cost from £2 normally.

Packs of Tesco vine ripened tomatoes usually cost £1.60, but until 10th April you can buy 2 for £2. Or, get the same deal on baby corn, Portobello mushrooms, tenderstem broccoli, mange tout and fine trimmed beans.

There are a few good buys at Ocado this week too; buy two Waitrose British veal meatballs (20 in a pack) for £4.50, 12 tins of Heinz baked beans for £5 and any 3 for £2.50 on various pre-prepared bags of veg including trimmed tenderstem broccoli and baby corn (normally 99p each).

Or, in store at Waitrose, look out for 2 for £4 on Mini Babybel bags, two for £2 on selected Onken yoghurt and 2 for £5 on selected Haagen-Dazs ice-cream tubs.

ASDA is offering 3 for £3.50 on various Walkers multi-packs including Frazzles (8 bags), French Fries (6 bags) and Squares (6 bags). It’s not always a big saving – both the French Fries and Squares cost £1.40 each normally so you only save 70p, but if you’re looking to stock up it’s still worthwhile.

Other top deals include packs of Nutrigrain apple and strawberry reduced to £1, down from £1.78, and 2 for £3 on Leerdammer slices (normally £1.98 each).

Finally, this week’s pick of the best deals at the Co-op include a four-tin pack of Branston baked beans for £1.22, was £2.45, Honey Monster Sugar/Honeycomb Puffs for £1.29, was £2.59, Thorntons Chocolate Collection for £3.59, was £7.50, and Co-op Truly Irresistible Conserves for £1.25, was £1.57.

Tipple

At Sainsbury’s multipacks of beer are on a 2 for £18 offer choices include Carling (15 x 440ml), saving you £6.38, John Smith’s Extra Smooth (15 x 440ml), saving you £6.52, and Kronenbourg (15 x 275ml), also saving you £6.52.

Get 50% off a case of Cesarini Sforza Cuvee Brut Riserva at Tesco Wine, reduced from £72 to £36. You can also find some top deals on spirits in store – it’s 2 for £26 on various sprits including a 1 litre bottle of  Gordon’s Special Dry London Gin (normally £19.49 each), a 700 ml bottle of Absolut Vodka Blue Label (normally £17.79 each) and a 1 litre bottle of Pimm’s (normally £20.29 each). 

Finally, head over to Majestic Wine for the ongoing 20% off Spanish wine when you buy at least two bottles and 20% off when you buy any two South African wines.

Cut price snacks

99p Stores is selling a dozen eggs, Deli Fresh Olive Pomace Oil (500ml), Bevelini Jalapeno Peppers (500ml) all for 99p each, and, just to buck the trend, a 1kg bag of Tate Lyle Sugar for only 79p!

At Thorntons it’s 3 for 2 on Easter eggs such as this very cute milk chocolate princess and this chocolate Charlie chimp (usually £6.49 each). You can also add an iced message for free, perfect for an Easter gift!

And, remember Millie’s Cookies has vouchers for deals including six cookies with six free, plus BOGOF on treatboxes, small hot drinks and small combos. The vouchers expire on 30th April.

Voucher codes

There’s a new code for new Sainsbury’s shoppers this week – head to Vouchercodes.co.uk for an exclusive £10 off when you spend at least £50 on groceries.

Sign up for the Great Little Ideas website for £5 worth of coupons such as 50p off Ambrosia Devon Custard 500g combi cartons, 50p off any Sharwoods Indian or Chinese jars, 50p off any Branston mayo and 20p off all 12-packs of Oxo cubes.

Plus you can still save 10% at Hotel Chocolat when you spend £25 using code MYSPG11 which expires 30 April. Or, sign up for the Moko Chocolates newsletter and you’ll be sent a code for 10% off their products.

There’s an ongoing code for new Ocado customers to get £15 off their first shop when they spend at least £75. Use the code VOU0050562 at the checkout.

Tesco has extended its offer for £10 off your first online grocery shop. To get the discount, you’ll need to spend at least £50 and enter the code XXAFFT at the checkout, for delivery made before 31st May. Just bear in mind that certain items - including wine by the case, tobacco, infant milk formulae and prescription medicines - are not eligible for the discount.
