Win a Japanese Mandolin via our sister site, lovefood.com!

In November, on our sister site lovefood.com, we wrote about the Japanese Mandolin as a great bit of kitchen kit.

"The Japanese mandolin – not a string instrument, by the way, but a veg slicer -  is one of those bits of kitchen kit you dream of before you have one."

Well now the fine people at OXO Good Grips have offered to make one lucky lovefood reader's dreams come true. They have sent us their fabulous Japanese Mandolin Slicer (worth £55) to give away to the winner of the following competition!

Win a Japanese Mandolin

All you have to do is to comment on this lovefood article (you can use your lovemoney.com login) and tell us which lovefood recipe you would use a mandolin slicer for and we'll pick a winner at random from all the entries. Good luck!

What OXO good Grips say about their Japnese Mandolin

Touted as "the one kitchen gadget that cooks at home have been waiting for" on the Today Show, OXO’s user-friendly Mandoline is the perfect tool for creating culinary sensations quickly and easily.

Straight and wavy blades can be set to any slice thickness and are ideal for making cucumber salad, potato chips, onion rings and citrus slices, and try making french fries, carrot sticks and garnishes with the thin and thick julienne blades. Just turn the soft dial to select your slice thickness or julienne setting.

All blades are safely covered when not in use. A soft handle set lower than the body ensures a comfortable grip and keeps your hand out of the way, and wide, non-slip feet keep the Mandoline stable and secure on the countertop.

The large food holder holds food securely, protects fingers and has a soft grip for added comfort. Storage is a snap: all blades store on board for added safety and convenience, the legs fold compactly, and the food holder snaps underneath. All blades are easily removable for cleaning.

I've got a few pieces of 'Good Grips' kit - all are great. They cost a little more than the alternatives but last much longer and work much better. I'd use it to slice vegetables for Pumpkin Risotto with Walnuts, Red Chicory and Gorgonzola

I think the mandolin is very dangerous. I had one a few years ago (not this one) and I was using it to slice a parsnip without a guard, (I note that no guard is shown in this picture.) It slipped as I got near the end. I almost cut off the top of my finger and had to go to hospital to have stitches. I had no feeling in my figner tip for nearly twenty years, and I still have a scar forty years later.
