Welcome to this week’s edition of Frugal Food. Let’s kick things off straight away with the best grocery deals around.
Best supermarket deals
We’ll kick off with the top offers at Tesco. Black seedless grapes, Cox apples and pears are all half their normal price; and there are 2 for 1 deals on 400g packs of Pilgrims Choice extra mature and mature Cheddar, and Activia multipacks.
This shoulder joint is currently half-price, and it’s a great time to stock up for Christmas: Tins of Cadbury Heros, Roses, Mars Celebrations and Nestle Quality Street are all down from £10 to £5 each. There’s also a 2 for 1 deal on Terry’s Chocolate Oranges.
At Sainsbury’s, there are 2 for 1 deals on Conference pears, Cox apples, plums and red dessert apples. Red seedless grapes are half-price; and there’s still a 2 for 1 deal on multipacks of Muller Fruit Corners/Crunch Corners.
This whole Gressingham duck is half-price as well, as is this Danish bacon and these Butcher’s Choice sausages. And there’s currently a great 3 for 1 deal on Homepride sauces, which means you get three jars for £1.42.
ASDA offers include lots of varieties of Pot Noodle, half-price at 55p each. Multipacks of 7Up (eight cans) are down from £3.64 to £1.75; and multipacks of Diet Pepsi are now £1.82, reduced from £3.64.
Over at Morrisons, there’s a 3 for 1 deal on Blue Dragon stir-fry sauce (all varieties, £1.69 for three jars). Uncle Ben’s long grain rice is also better-than-half-price, down from £2.65 to £1.30 per pack.
Deep discounter LIDL is selling 1kg of carrots for 29p, 250g of spinach for 49p, 500g of plums for 50p, 1kg of courgettes for 90p, and 20 packs of Walkers crisps for £1.99.
Rival NETTO is selling 200g jars of Kenco Rappor for £2, four-packs of Mars, Twix and Snickers bars for £1 each, six-packs of Sprite, Lilt and Dr Pepper for £1.49, and Terry’s Chocolate Oranges for just £1 each.
And finally, deals at The Co-op include Lloyd Grossman pasta sauces for £1 each, and 452g boxes of Thorntons Milk Chocolate Collection for £5 each.
Tipple
At Marks & Spencer there’s currently 25% off all champagne and wine when you buy online. Just remember you’ll need to buy at least six bottles (one case).
And at Majestic Wine, you can still get 25% off any two bottles of Spanish wine. The offer excludes wines under £5, over £25, cava and sherry.
You can also get 20% off any two bottles of South African wine.

Cut price snacks
Buy the Sun newspaper on 8th October (Friday) and you’ll find a voucher for a free oven-baked sub from Domino’s. The voucher has to be used before 4pm, on the day of publication only.
You can still get a free glass of coke when you register with Yates’s pubs. Just sign up here, print the voucher and take it to your nearest branch to claim your drink.
Hunt down October’s issue of Glamour magazine and bag a free coffee voucher (amongst several others for non-food items). The voucher entitles you to a free latte at Coffee Republic, and is valid from 4th to 10th October.
Voucher codes
You can get £10 off your first online grocery order with Tesco when you enter the code XXAFFT at the checkout.
You’ll need to spend at least £50 to qualify for the discount, and have your shopping delivered on or before 31st January 2011.
Remember the code is valid on the Tesco Groceries site only. Unfortunately, wine by the case, tobacco, infant milk formulae and prescription medicines are all excluded from the deal.
