Is Obama a genius?

Obama stands back and watches his opponents tire themselves out.

I'm fascinated by American politics and when I want to get my Washington DC fix I usually visit Andrew Sullivan's superb Daily Dish blog.

My visits have been especially frequent in recent weeks as we waited to see if the House of Representatives would vote for the Healthcare reform plan. Now it's happened, it's going to be intriguing to see which party ends up as 'the winner'. The Republicans are hoping for big gains in November's mid-term elections - every time something goes wrong in a hospital, the lunatic fringe of that party will blame it on Obama's supposedly communist measure.

The Democrats are, of course, hoping that as voters see the concrete reality of the new scheme, they'll like it.  My hunch is that the Democrats will win out in the end. Reading this post on Sullivan's blog only strengthened my view. Here's the money quote:

"Obama's genius is not attacking his opposition head-first. It is patiently assisting its self-destruction. First Clinton; then McCain; then Palin; now the GOP as a whole."

Spot on.
