Online banking continues to be an exciting new service on offer at lovemoney.com. We've only been live eight weeks but already lots of you are using the service and finding it useful. Thank you for all your emails and comments in the feedback forum.

Many of you have similar issues, feedback and questions so this blog post will address the most pressing of these and shed some light on our future plans for online banking. We're evolving the service based on both customer feedback and our own insights. This will make our service indispensible for you, the customers, and keep it out in front of the competition.

We're listening to you...
At this early stage of development we're focused on making the lovemoney.com online banking experience as stable and smooth as possible. We hope to make it simple and intuitive to set up your accounts, check transactions and get started with basic analysis of your income and expenditure. To achieve that aim we've released a number of improvements over the last two weeks.

More banks and financial institutions added...
It is our ambition to support as many UK banks and financial product providers as possible. We already support a large number of UK banks and a majority of customers already manage multiple accounts with us. We're continually adding providers to the service as requested by customers.

Yorkshire Bank accounts are now fully supported by the service. Anyone wanting to add Yorkshire Bank accounts should now be able to do so.

In addition, and in conjunction with our data partner, Yodlee, we have recently made the following new providers available in BETA status:

  • Mint Credit Card
  • Santander ASDA Credit Card
  • Amazon Credit Card
  • Leeds Building Society (Credit Cards)
  • Leeds Building Society (Savings)
  • Sainsbury's Credit Card
  • St James Place Bank (UK)
  • The National Lottery (UK)
  • Ulster Bank Credit Card

BETA means that customers can now add these accounts to their lovemoney.com online banking dashboard. However, once added, it can take up to two weeks before your transactions begin to be fully retrieved. If you've added an account marked BETA then keep an eye out for transactions.

Functional updates to the service this week....
Based on your feedback we've made some updates to the service this week:

  • You can now export all your transactions as a CSV file for use in Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet software.
  • We've sped up the login process so you get to the application's dashboard faster.
  • We've removed the 'Your spending so far' analysis from the dashboard. Many of you asked to be able to set the start date for this feature. We'll be adding a comprehensive Analysis section soon that will make a better job of this kind of summary. To avoid confusion we felt it best to remove this feature for now.
  • We've fixed a bug with categorising transactions. Many customers told us that changing the category of transactions was simply not working. We hope this is now fixed.
  • The 'your monthly summary' section of the dashboard now recognises whether you have a monthly surplus or a deficit and labels it as such.
  • If you had a credit card that was reading a positive balance when you actually owed money this issue should also be fixed now.
  • We've tried to give you a better idea of what's gone wrong when an account won't update properly. Error codes are important to diagnose customer problems but we now give you a bit more information so you get a more useful diagnosis and it's clearer what you can do to help yourself.
  • Some of you had problems with timeouts when using categorisation. We believe this issue is fixed.
  • The checkboxes that allow you to filter transactions by account now only show on the transactions page. Hopefully this feature is now more intuitive.

We'll be making further updates to the service every two weeks. Hopefully we've tackled some of the more common issues with the updates this week.

We intend to be open with our roadmap:
We constantly review our product roadmap. It is a major challenge maintaining the services and applications supported by lovemoney.com whilst pushing forward new features and functionality.  Since starting development of online banking we've had a focused vision for the service. We continue to pursue the goal of simplifying money management for our customers and helping you save money.

To achieve this we'll continue to work on delivering more advanced analysis through the online banking application - upcoming features that will help with this goal are:

  • An 'analysis' tab that will address many customers' issues relating to different views of transaction data.
  • Budgeting functionality will make for a powerful service helping customers to track and meet their own budgeting targets.

Many of you asked us to look at adding personal categories. We continue to look at the technicalities of achieving this. Initially we are reviewing the category system with a view to improving the categories as they stand to go some way to improving the usefulness of categorisation.

One final thing we aim to improve is the feedback forum itself. We'd like to encourage more discussion there and hope to improve the way that we can thread topics and types of feedback together. Stay posted....

Finally, please keep telling us what you think....
We hope this overview has been useful in keeping you up-to-date with what's happening with online banking. It's really important for the service that you continue to use this blog (plus the forum and email) to tell us what you think. To help us to help you better please direct your feedback as below:

Thanks again for choosing to use the lovemoney.com online banking service, if you have any questions please leave them below.
