Twas the night before Christmas...

A Christmas message from the lovemoney.com team.

...when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

Imagine that mouse scuttling quietly across the empty lovemoney.com office on Christmas day, jumping from desk to desk, tip-tip-tapping across the keyboards, playing with the marker pens and wipe boards. Well, for a start, I can assure everyone that our offices are actually quite tidy and generally mouse free, but the office will indeed be empty as the lovemoney.com team take a well earned day off (or two). It will certainly be a well earned rest...

It has been a busy year. We have formed the company, built the website and helped many people with their money despite the current "challenging" economic environment. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who work at lovemoney.com for an exceptional year, and on behalf of the entire lovemoney.com team I would like to thank you, our customers, for helping make the site what it is today. lovemoney.com is all about collaboration, we wanted to build the best money website around, and with your help I think we have gone a long way to achieving just that.

So here is a big "well done" to our customers and the lovemoney.com team, may we all enjoy a large slice of turkey this year. lovemoney.com is all about being passionate about getting your everyday finances right, by doing this it enables you to enjoy the other things in life, and we truly hope everyone will enjoy the holiday season this year.

We want to produce the best personal finance site around, and instead of trying to throw people in to price comparison, we want people to really get comfortable with their money. We want to help people arrange their everyday money and be better off. Easy.

So what have we achieved this year at lovemoney.com? Here are a few highlights that deserve a special mention, almost like an end of year awards show...

The winner of best new innovation in gaining instant help to all your financial questions:

lovemoney.com Q&A! Our very own answers area for finance questions. There are lots of people on Q&A with the answers to your questions. So far this year there have been over 1,500 questions asked, and I would estimate over 5,000 answers given. That is a lot of information. Q&A is great, and as proof I have asked this yuletide question here (it is not exactly money related).

The winner of the best new innovation for organising things online in a group and learning from others:

lovemoney.com Goals! Need help achieving certain targets? Our goals section will help you to get to your targets, and it will connect you with like minded people who are trying to achieve the same thing. Tens of thousands of goals were adopted this year on lovemoney.com. The most popular was "lower your household bills".

The winner of the best lovemoney.com blog:

Ed Bowsher. Great blog, full of insightful views as Ed continues his campaign to get people talking about money.

Winner of the best new product area on lovemoney.com:

The mortgage centre! OK, so I will probably be in trouble for linking to this as it is still officially in testing, but our new mortgage centre is pretty good. It lets you search the market online and then tweak your individual components before saving your search or just going ahead and booking your mortgage. It is just excellent (a phrase somebody said to me today, I quite like it). All we need now is for the banks to start actually allowing people mortgages again and the centre would be complete!

Winner of the best new finance innovation:

If I was in trouble for mentioning the last one, I am definitely in trouble for mentioning this one. Online Banking at lovemoney.com! So, now you can run all your live accounts through lovemoney.com, this allows you to categorise your transactions and monitor your spend. It is secure, it is new, it is meant to be top secret. However as I have mentioned it now, feel free to go and have a look, but if you have any problems uploading accounts then please keep in mind that the lovemoney.com (helpful) customer service staff are all on holiday for the next few days.

And finally, the Winner of the funniest thing we have done this year award:

The lovemoney.com editorial team bloopers reel! Sadly I have been asked not to link to this as there is bad language involved (some of the editorial team are worse than others I can assure you). The editorial team have had a great year on video, as we try and bring more insight in ways other than written content.

I think that concludes our awards for the year and it concludes this blog post as well. Hope you enjoy the highlights and we look forward to seeing you next year. However, before you go, perhaps we can ask one favour...

We here at lovemoney.com work hard trying to give you as good a site as possible, but we do not have reams and reams of TV advertising budgets. We rely on our customers telling their friends about the site. At the bottom of the this blog is a box that says "Enjoyed this, show it some love". So perhaps you could "show it some love", recommend it, share it? Alternatively, forward the email to your friends and hopefully they will find it useful.

You are great customers and I promise we will do the best job possible in 2010 to deliver a site deserving of the audience. Any ideas for things you would like to see on the site or would find useful, just throw them on as comments at the bottom of this post and we will do our best to deliver them.

Happy Christmas & Happy Holidays.

Enjoyed this? Show it some love

I contributed a few answers and did all the goals, except for selling my junk; I still have most of it! A lot did go to the tip though. I have heard people complaining about money for the past two weeks and my goal of saving in 2009 was achieved and a bit extra on top! I also achieved other personal goals like writing a novel and so far this Christmas I've stayed off alcohol! Amazon let me down on postcard sized photo paper which I wanted for a nostalgic Christmas gift I was going to print myself. But all the others went well and I was able to be generous on money I had saved on just about everything else. I cleaned my laptop keyboard, ready to write my next book in 2010 and as soon as it dries out I'll probably be answering questions and making facetious comments again on Lovemoney.com. It's Christmas Eve and my turkey is thawing. I got it cheap from an alcoholic farmer; it was legless when I bought it! lol.

I hope everyone staff and users have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I'm now working on a story for Christmas 2010. I have the main characters Ebenezar Santander and his minimum wage administrative assistant Bob Scratchit. I happened on this blog when I clicked a link from LinkedIn. I'll go back there, there is something in my inbox.
