The MoneyTrack iphone app has been submitted

We delighted to announce that our iphone application has been submitted to Apple.

The MoneyTrack iphone app has been submitted

The app development has been a long and tortuous process,  which has included a couple of changes of project personnel, a number of design/feature changes and a near total re-architecture of the code from the ground up after a routine internal code review. The reason being that we really wanted to ensure that the code was fullly tested, very robust and secure before releasing to users.

This app is for iphone, simply because right now there are a far higher proportion of iphone users browsing on the lovemoney site right now than any other mobile platform. But that doesn't mean we've forgotten about other platforms; at the same time as developing this app we have also been working on the MoneyTrack v2 project.  This is written in such a way that spinning off apps for Android & Windows Phone will be a relatively smooth process. We will post more about the upcoming features in v2 once it is closer to release.

The team here are very excited. Having been using the application for some time, we are all finding it particularly useful on a day to day basis to keep track of our spending and we really think you will like it too.  In terms of feature set for this v1 app we've focussed on keeping it as simple as possible, so it's targetted at viewing, categorising and tracking your spending while on the go.  Extended features like budgeting and analysis will continue to be available on the website.

We are now in the hands of Apple and the application approval process, we will keep you posted as soon as we have more news. In the meantime here are a few screenshots as a taster:

It's now on the app store. Kind of worked the first time I used it (all except the overview page) however the next time and each subsequent time it allows you to enter your passcode then says connecting and the gets stuck on a screen saying rendering display.

I tried deleting and re downloading the app to have the same results and I tried downloading it on my iPad as well and again have the same results.

Any ideas when it will be working correctly?

    I have problems also.

Worked ok first time (again except for the overview page which displayed nothing), then when I subsequently try to log on with my passcode it says I have it incorrect. If I click the Forgotten Passcode button it asks me a question which i didn't provide the answer for in the first place, which is again wrong.

Other than that the interface looked good and seemed to work nicely - Just need to sort out logging on issues!

Hi all, we have been seeing similar behaviour on some phones as you have described.

It is very odd as it appears that the version that Apple are deploying from the store is in some way different from the test version we submitted for testing.

When we install both versions on the same phone, our test one works, the live one doesn't. Quite how Apple passed it through their testing is unclear.

We're trying to get some clarification from Apple on what is happening, if they make any changes. Our app developer has submitted many apps in the past and has never seen behaviour like this.

We'll keep you posted and submit updates to the app through the store.

Thanks for the feedback and testing, not long now.

    Charlie

    Hi all,

After some digging today we have established for definite that the binary that was being pushed out from the store was not the same as the one that we submitted for testing.

So we have taken the precaution of removing the app from the store while we get this resolved.

We'll keep you posted as to progress, turnaround times with Apple communication are slow. I'm hopeful we should have the correct version out for real next week!

    Thanks,

    Charlie

    Hi Snowbaked,

The app is back with Apple and we are just awaiting an update from them (hopefully we won't be waiting much longer!).

Unfortunately, an app specifically for the iPad is not on the cards at the moment but obviously the iPhone app will be iPad compatible.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Any news on the app? Last I heard it was back with Apple after they messed up and put the wrong binary live but that was almost 2 months ago. Understand it's out of your hands but have they any update? Thanks!

Still doesn't work. I enter the passcode I created months ago when the app was first released and it doesn't let me in. So I tap Forgot Passcode and enter the answer to the question it asks me and says it doesnt match their records. So I uninstall then reinstall the app and it asks me for my passcode again (without asking me to register again first). So, after waiting for months and months it still doesn't work for those users who installed the first version of the app :(

If the app doesn't crash upon loading then all I get is "Tracker app could not be loaded at this time"

    Apart from that it's great.

EDIT: Works fine on the iPad. I'm guessing my problem is related to being jailbroken.

    Hi everyone,

You will be pleased to know that the app is now live on the app store (I'm sure some of you are already aware of this!).

SteveWaterfall, we have reset your password so if you can log out and then log back in it will ask you to recreate your pass code and everything should work as expected.

To anybody else who has downloaded the app and is encountering various issues, can you please log out and then delete the app, re-install and set it all up again. This will stop the issues some are having with registration and crashing.

If you encounter any issues or just have some feedback for us on the app can you please email them to OBFeedback@lovemoney.com.

We look forward to your feedback and we hope you enjoy the app!

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Hi Tashyman,

Although the two applications are complementary, the iphone app can be used in isolation. Sometimes the refreshing of your bank details can take some time, particularly the first time, so if you can leave the app open until the status displays "downloading transactions" which means the connection is out of the way and the process is close to completion.

If you still have problems then please send an email to obfeedback@lovemoney.com and we'd be happy to help.

    Best regards, Charlie
