If you’re planning a garden party/barbecue this weekend, here’s where to hunt out the best bargains...

It's not been the best summer so far, but if a little bit of rain doesn't deter you from getting out in the garden, you might be planning to light your barbecue or hold a garden party this weekend.

And if that's the case, you might be wondering how to do so without blowing the budget. So here's where you can get your hands on some top bargains.

Garden furniture

If your garden furniture isn't quite up to scratch, don't go forking out for a brand new set just yet. Instead, have a look at freebie sites such as Freecycle and SnaffleUp. Many people give away items they no longer want on these sites, so they are definitely worth checking out.

However, if you'd prefer to buy something brand new, hurry down to B&Q where you can currently save yourself up to 70% off selected garden furniture! So you can now pick up a table and four chairs, plus parasol for just under £88.49 - saving you over £200!

Similarly, Homebase is well worth a look at as it is selling selected garden furniture for half price.

Barbecues

If you're looking for a sparkly new barbecue, Dobbies Garden Centre is currently offering 30% off barbecue kits - so you can pick up a Family Barbecue Kit with all the trimmings for £139.99.

Alternatively, you can pick up a really simple charcoal barbecue from Tesco Direct for just a tenner!

Food and drink

A good way to keep your food and drink costs down is by asking your guests to each bring a simple dish, or a bottle of wine/fruit juice.

If you're paying a visit to your local supermarket, keep an eye out for reduced items on the supermarket shelves and buy in bulk where possible - why not buy large packets of pasta, rice or potatoes and make some simple and cheap salads?

Finally, don't forget to check out seasonal deals at deep discounters Aldi, Lidl and Netto as you'll probably find prices here are much cheaper than in the major supermarkets.

Plates and the like!

Paper plates and plastic cups can usually be picked up cheaply at your local supermarket or pound shop.

Alternatively, check out BiomeLifestyle which offers a whole range of eco-friendly picnicware which is ideal for garden parties - and right now a lot of it is in the summer sale! For example, you can pick up a set of two recycled plastic plates for £2 or a biodegradable picnic bag for four (including plates, cups and cutlery) for £20.

Habitat also has a range of durable picnicware in its summer sale. So you can pick up a salad bowl for £4, and side plates for 80p!

Finally, don't forget to use websites such as HotUKDeals, vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk to hunt out voucher codes for any online shopping you do. This can really shave the pounds off your shopping!

Have fun!

great article. An interesting fact is that with the current economy, more and more companies are now offering garden furniture hire and people are choosing to hire furniture when they are having larger gatherings, rather than buying it in.
