Frugal Christmas: Gifts for kids December 21 2011
This is our final collection of frugal gifts for kids but do check out our round-up of the very best last minute gifts tomorrow.
Highlights today include a better than half price play kitchen and mega garage, a 6 in 1 puzzle set for £3, 2 for £8 on family games at Asda, the Cars 2 Monopoly game for £12.49 and half-price Disney classics.
Better than half-price toys
There are some better than half-price deals at Tesco Direct and you can Click & Collect orders from by 3pm and pick up after 4pm the next day in store. Top picks include this 6 in 1 puzzle set for £3 (was £10), this Barbie pink tea set for £6.50 (was £15), this Toy Story Alien Giant Plush for £8 (was £20) and this ZingZillas Pay ‘n’ Groove Panzee toy for £7.97 (was £29.97).
My top picks for girls…
At Marks & Spencer the exclusive Emily Button range is perfect for girls. Prices start from £3.50 and the range is included in the 3 for 2 deal on gifts so if you buy three things you get the cheapest for free. So buy this secret lockable journal and apron – both £8 each – and get this writing set (also worth £8) for free! Online you need to order by 6pm tonight for Christmas delivery.
…and boys
There are lots of toys and games on sale at John Lewis but my favourites would have to be the Laser Stunt Chaser Double Roll Turbo Jump Set which is half-price at £17.95, the Zibits Battle Fortress for £20 (was £39.95), this skeleton outfit which is half-price at £7 and this Cars 2 Spy Shifter, Mater for £7.95 (was £15.95).
Classic family games
Buy Guess Who (for £10) or its cheaper rival Who’s Who (for £5) from Asda (free collection in store) which is also on a 2 for £8 promo so buy another game such as Four In a Row or Mr Funny Face and you save £2.
You can also save a third on Operation, now £9.32 (RRP £13.99), at Argos. Or buy an updated version of an old favourite, with this Cars 2 Monopoly game which is half-price at £12.49 (RRP £24.99), Twister and Hungry Hippos for £13.99 each, or the Chad Valley Tension Tower game for £4.99 – if you simply must have the real thing, head to ToysRus to buy Jenga for £10.99.
Gifts for under £10
Finally, if you want to spend less than a tenner look at these gift ideas.
At ToysRus (many items are available for Click & Collect in store) you can buy video games on the cheap such as Wii Band Hero for the Nintendo Wii for £4.99 (RRP £), Aliens vs Predator for the Xbox for £9.99 (RRP £19.99), Iron Man 2 for Xbox 360 for £9.99 (RRP £49.99) and Disney Sing It for the PS3 for £3.99 (RRP £29.99).
Or, grab half-price DVDs for kids including the JLS arena tour DVD Eyes Wide Open for £7.99, Tangled and Beauty and the Beast for £8.49 each, or Up and Dumbo (special edition) for £7.99 each – all available to reserve and collect at Argos.
And, for a sweet treat look out in the supermarkets for the (very cute) new Lindt teddy; the large 100g Lindt Bear is on a 2 for £5 deal (usually £3 each) in all the supermarkets and the mini 10g Lindt bears are 49p (or 3 for £1), or you can buy the Lindt Gold Chocolate Bear & Friends set of five for £2.49 (or 2 for £4).
