Frugal Christmas: Budget gifts for men 20th December 2011
Don't fret if you still have lots of presents to buy before the big day; here are some budget gifts for even the fussiest dads, brothers and grandads!
Highlights includes half-price Christmas jumpers, £50 off a Fujifilm 14 megapixel camera, a cassette tape MP3 speaker for £5 and a half-price football table which is now £15!
Fashion and accessories
Christmas wouldn’t be complete without at least one person getting a jumper – personally I like a festive number such as this one from H&M for £19.99 but otherwise you can save 50% on this teal roll neck jumper from River Island (now £20) and find half-price knitwear at House of Fraser too including this lovely crew neck striped jumper (now £17.50) and Linea merino jumpers in a range of colours (now £25).
Then at Marks & Spencer (order by 6pm on 21st December for standard UK delivery) you can currently save 25% on selected items online including this cotton t-shirt (now £7.12), this aviator jacket now £37.12) and this fleece lined Fair Isle scarf with wool (now £14.62).
Electricals and gadgets
There are some big discounts on electrical goods at Curry’s (you can reserve and collect in store in one hour) including this Samsung DVD player for £39.99 (RRP £54.99) and this 14 megapixel/ 3 x optical zoom Fujifilm camera for £49.99 (RRP £99.99). Plus get a £10 voucher when you buy any of these items.
At John Lewis you can order up until 3pm on 21 December and still have your gifts delivered by Christmas Eve (£3 or free for orders over £30) or Click & Collect from John Lewis shops until 7pm on 22 December. Offers include £10 off this coffee grinder and cup gift set (now £29.95), £6 off this Damask Tower of Treats hamper (now £24) and £5 off both this mini casino set (now £15) and this cassette tape MP3 speaker (now £5).
Also, although it’s not on sale, I had to point out this radio (for £20) and these speakers (£12) which are made from 100% recycled cardboard so of you’re a bit of an arts and crafts whizz you can get your paints and pens out to personalise them!
Grooming
There are all the usual Lynx grooming sets around but they are often boring and overpriced but some of the lesser known brands have good gift sets. I saw Dapper in BHS which is a bit quirky with retro style packaging and prices ranging from just £4 to £15 in store. Look out for the Gym Jam gift set for £12 which contains a large hair and body wash, face wash and a micro-fibre towel, all kept in a handy drawstring bag for post-workout clean up.
Don’t forget about the Boots 3 for 2 gift deal but choose your gifts carefully. You could get this Soap and Glory for Men Groom to Go Washbag set for £16, this L’Oreal Skin Wake Up kit for £15 but then because the cheapest item is free buy something for the same price (or as close to as possible) such as this Ted Baker Tried and Tested fragrance set for £15 to get more for your money.
Big boy toys and games
There are some cheap gifts for men at Argos too including this O’Neills blue check wallet for £8.66 (was £12.99) which also comes with a free beanie mobile phone cover and a wooden chess set for £19.99 (was £24.99) which is also included in a 3 for 2 promo along with this luxury wine kit for £9.99 (was £19.99), this bike care kit for £11.24 (was £14.99) and this Wahl trimming set which is less than half-price at £9.99 (was £25.99).
Last minute luxury
Lily and Lime sends all of its orders first class (for £3.95), so as long as you order by 4pm, they are dispatched the day the order is placed. Even better, you get luxury gift wrapping and hand written gift cards included in the price of each item – you can even get the present sent directly to the recipient if you want. Top picks include a rustic leather journal for £16.50, a pair of port goblets for £25.50 and these Union Jack pewter cufflinks for £20.
