Now that we’re coming to the end of the month, some new season discounts are popping up. And remember to snap up any last chance bargains in the final reductions of the January sales.

Frugal fashion and homewares

Personally, I find Miss Selfridge a bit stingy when it comes to special offers so if you’re a fan, make the most of them when they come up. Right now students can save 20% for a limited time and if you’re looking for new season clothes, spend £40 and enter the code SS11TREAT for free delivery. Plus you can still get up to £20 off selected coats/jackets and up to £10 off knitwear.

  • Get fit: It’s not my idea of fun, but if your resolution is to get fit this year, the health, beauty and well-being weekend starts today at Westfields Shopping Centre in London. There will be six interactive zones offering you free personal advice on how to stay fit and look good, plus live events and performances. See the event schedule here.
  • Vintage hunt: Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair is making the rounds touring 20 UK cities, so don’t miss out if you want vintage bits and bobs that aren’t a rip off (for once). Entry is a mere £2 and you can find out when the fair makes it to your nearest city here.
  • £2 cinema: If you’re aged between 13 and 18, you can see buy Teenscreen tickets to use at Vue cinemas. These show every Thursday and Friday and cost only £2 or £3 for 3D films.

  • At Amazon you can grab the newly released PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 for £38.36 (RRP £49.99) or pick it up for the Xbox 360 at Base.com for only £9.99, saving you £40.
  • For another new PS3 game, Sackboy the ragdoll superhero returns with Little Big Planet 2 which is cheapest at Simply Games for £36.85 (RRP £49.99). For the first Little Big Planet instalment, it costs only £11.90 (RRP £19.99) at Amazon.
  • For Nintendo Wii games, My Memory has the best price for Disney Tangled at £21.99 (RRP £39.99) but stocks are running out fast, and Free Running is just £9.99 (RRP £19.99) at The Game Collection.

    I think it is best to keep your money for essentials and start todo without the 'junk' that became 'must haves' whenteh economy was booming.

    We must get ready for a real reduction in livimg standards and many ofteh above items are only luxeries, not necessities.

    Still there will always be some rich people out there so they will be happy to induulge, but many will be paying for fuel and food and thinking - there is little left for the fripperies of the past 10 years.
