Top 8 energy tariffs

One look out of the window tells you that the best of the summer is gone.

So it would seem are some of the cheapest energy tariffs which have been creeping upwards over the past few weeks and months, pushing the typical bills up to £1,217 and adding hundreds to annual bills.

But it is not too late to save.  There is a still a considerable difference between the standard tariffs suppliers keep customers on and the ultra cheap tariffs they offer new customers, often several hundred pounds cheaper.

I am glad to hear that you are happy with your supplier; many customers have other considerations about the choice of supplier other than just price. Good service can be equally important.

On the matter of price however the perpetuation of the myth that Utility Warehouse is a cheap supplier of gas an electricity just does not add up.

Go to any ConsumerFocus accredited switching site, type in the typical consumption for a UK household (20,500kwh for gas and 3300kwh elec) and take a look at the result.

For a typical London Post code (let's take W1F 9LT for argument's sake) you would be paying

    £883 for npower SOL 19

    £901 for e.on SOL 3

    £946 for OVO NEF

    £951 for first:utility isaveDF4

and £1,122 for Utility Warehouse high user tariff. The standard user tariff is available at £1,132.

This compares to standard tariffs for BG and EdF, the default regional supplers of £1,200. Not much of a saving on standard rate and a full £239 dearer than the best deal available for that region.

As I said not everyone is after the cheapest deal in the market, but if you are, it is not Utility Warehouse.

The Utility Warehouse do not state they are the cheapest at any one time. However, they keep their tarrifs constantly level and the same for new and old customers. Over a longer period of time it has showed that they are very competitive against the other providers. They do not tie you into any minimum term contracts so they have to be competitive to retain customers. And they dont list a low joining tarriff to attract new customers into an 18 month contract just to put the price up a few months down the line. Plus, they refuse to pay comparrison websites to recommend their service for custom. No wonder they list at the bottom!

Do your own due dilligence and shop around!
