New ‘mega-cheap’ energy tariffs launched

Two more price rises come into force this week, so here are the best fixed deals to stop your rates creeping up on you...

New ‘mega-cheap’ energy tariffs launched

E.ON and the Scottish & Southern Energy group (inc. Atlantic, Southern Electric, Scottish Hydro and Swalec) are raising their prices this week by an average of 18% on gas and 11% on electricity, adding nearly £200 to the typical bill.

This is bad news for customers just as summer seems to be ebbing away. However, there is some good news, with several suppliers introducing special deals to win back customers.

ScottishPower is offering £30 cashback for a limited time only on its tariffs. They have also just launched a new cheap fixed tariff that is even cheaper than the last version! Unfortunately the cashback doesn’t apply to this new tariff, but it’s still the second cheapest fix around! However, these cashback offers never hang around for long, and nor do cheap tariffs!

EDF has also re-launched its mega-cheap Fixed S@ver tariff. Bearing in mind that EDF is the only one of the Big Six suppliers yet to announce a price rise, existing customers could be well-advised to switch to a cheap fixed tariff before more price rises are announced.

Hmmm I managed to lock into a year without a pay rise by "accidentally" adding a years worth of credits to my meter readings... so this time next year I would have used... 1 or 2 units... Fortunately my meters are indoors so can't be checked up on very easily.
