Just as the energy price rises start to kick in, another supplier joins the crowd...

nPower announces price rise

Npower has just become the 5th of the Big Six suppliers to raise its gas and electricity prices, by 15.7% and 7.2% respectively.

Meanwhile, millions of British Gas customers will see their bills go up by nearly £200 a year from tomorrow (18th August) as their 18% gas and 16% price rise comes into effect. ScottishPower’s prices went up less than three weeks ago, and e.on and SSE customers are in for the same in four weeks’ time.

The message is still to get on a fixed rate deal to stop your supplier putting your prices up. Even the cheap online tariffs will be affected by price rises at some point.

More of the cheapest tariffs have been pulled but several new fixed tariffs have been launched in the last week. Here is the updated table of cheapest fixed tariffs:-

Mike - I manufacture electronic devices and LED indicator products and have done so for the past 35 years. Your 'low energy bulbs are a bit dim' ??? I have 25W industrial spiral bulbs which are warm white and absolutely blinding with an incandescent equivalent output of 125W. You also have a strange view of frugality with respect to initial outlay vs. running costs and LED lighting can now compete on brightness with unrivalled efficiency. LED's are pretty much doubling in efficiency every year. I don't recall Lovemoney making much of a fuss when the subsidy was removed from low energy lighting. I bought some lamps from Tesco at 10p one week and they are now on the shelves at £2. Another couple of years and nothing will be able to rival LED lighting. Nothing beats the 100 low energy lamps I bought from Netto a few months back at 1p each however...
