Bad news about your energy bills

We may have been dreaming of a White Christmas ever since Bing Crosby first started singing about it, but believe me, when it comes to your heating bills, the snow is bad news.

We may have been dreaming of a White Christmas ever since Bing Crosby first started singing about it, but believe me, when it comes to your heating bills, the snow is bad news.

With temperatures falling to minus 19 degrees Celsius in some parts of the UK, you’ll no doubt be  turning up the heating at home – and there’s more bad news on the energy front.

nPower has now joined three of other the big six suppliers and announced that it will raise its prices. The announcement came on the same day that the British Gas increase kicked in.

Unfortunately, nPower’s price rise starts on the 4th of January – three days after fuel duties rise by 0.76p a litre, making it a double whammy for customers.

Scottish Power and Southern & Scottish Electric have already raised their prices, while EdF has frozen its prices until March.

That means that the only major supplier yet to announce its plans is EON. We’ll keep you updated if and when it raises its prices too!

Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do to avoid the price hikes or the increase in your energy costs due to the snow. But that makes it even more vital that you ensure you are on the cheapest tariff possible.

Our updated table shows all tariffs post-price-rise (where price rises have been announced), helping you see the wood through the snowy trees....

Where are the energy efficient homes to buy?. None in Leicestershire that i can see. They are a probably a con anyway I am sure with perhaps 'fiddled' certificates, how this Government can sign up to ridiculous CO2 targets beats me- they should be thinking about our energy bills.

I have an energy efficient home, it was built in 1890 and is far warmer than the supposedly efficient modern house I was renting. It has a modern boiler and was rewired in 2007. I've only just moved in but when I finally get the attic cleared and insulation fitted in there (currently there is none at all) it should be toasty warm.
