News on the latest developments to our online banking service.

New video! What do you think? Is it helpful?

We have added our first video ‘howtorial' to help customers get started with online banking. We hope that the video will provide a quick taster of what you can expect to find when you first log-in and offer help on adding your first account. You can find the video in the getting started section.

Video 'howtorials' are new to the site; please do leave us feedback on how we are doing by leaving a comment below.

More banks and financial institutions

In our last update on the blog we mentioned the number of new banks and financial institutions that are being added to the service and are currently in BETA. We also explained that adding new providers can be quite slow but that it is our ambition to offer excellent coverage for customers, do please bear with us!

Since last time we have had numerous requests to add to the current list, here's a quick rundown:

  • ING Direct
This is in the process of being added but there are technical complexities with ING which are currently delaying progress. We'll keep you updated.
  • Co-operative Bank Credit Cards
This is now available on the service - if you've added it previously and still see problems with it we suggest you remove the account and re-add it to get transactions.
  • Yorkshire Building Society
Added to the build list, will update any progress next time.
  • Newcastle Building Society
    Noted.
  • Birmingham Midshires (Savings account)
Scheduled to be worked on as a BETA account in March/April.
  • Santander Zero Credit Card
Scheduled to be worked on as a BETA account in March/April.
  • Santander Zero Current Accounts
Scheduled to be worked on as a BETA account in March/April.
  • Citi Bank Credit Card
Scheduled to be worked on as a BETA account in March/April.

Please do keep making requests for banks and financial institutions; we appreciate the need for getting good coverage for our customers.

Changes to the service this week

  • Customers with accounts that have a PIN Sentry pass code/token
There has been an error with the process of updating your accounts where you have to enter your PIN Sentry/pass code token. This problem has hopefully been fixed with the release today. If anyone with Pin Sentry accounts continues to have problems please let us know by leaving a comment below or email us at obfeedback@lovemoney.com
  • Customers with Alliance & Leicester accounts
We know that there have been errors displaying when trying to add A&L accounts. We have released a fix for the issue that we hope will resolve the matter. If anyone with Alliance & Leicester accounts continues to have problems please let us know by leaving a comment below or email us at obfeedback@lovemoney.com

More control over your settings

By popular demand we have added a settings page to online banking that gives customers the ability to:

  • Change the name of a provider
  • Change the name of an account
  • Ignore an account (helpful if you just want to look at your savings accounts)
  • Invert the balance (in case your credit card is reading as positive, when it should be negative)
  • Delete a provider from your list

Altogether faster

Some work we have done behind the scenes means that the service is noticeably faster when you are logged-in. We hope the change helps you save time.

Coming up

As mentioned last week our plan is still to work on delivering more advanced analysis through the online banking application - upcoming features that will help with this goal are:

  • An analysis tab that will address many customers' issues relating to different views of transaction data.
  • Budgeting functionality will make for a powerful service helping customers to track and meet their own budgeting targets.

In addition, we continue to read and respond to all feedback in order to work out how to develop online banking with our customers in mind. That's it for now. Any feedback? Please keep talking to us, you can leave a comment below.

Great! A comment on the blog (the forum is soooo popular!)

    Thanks mountdoom!

Yes, we have had really helpful feedback from customers on this very issue. We agree, and we would really like and plan to focus on this subject once we have got the new analysis tab (described above) released on to the service.

The main issue for us is the SDK (Software Development Kit) that we use to deliver the service. It does not provide, out the box, an obvious way to enable customers to have more control over the naming conventions for their categories. If we conceded complete control of the category names, in terms of the SDK, every time a customer renamed a category it would rename it for everyone.

However, we are sure that we will be able to find ways to improve categories, but it is going to take the team an iteration or two (2-4 weeks) once we have the Analysis tab released, to sort it out. That is the current plan! So, hopefully, in the first half of this year we will have addressed the issue!

Hope this helps - and thanks very much for the feedback!

    Kind regards,

    Carl

    Hi,

I'd love to be able to input known upcoming transactions (which would then be reconciled once automated tranactions are downloaded) to see how my balance is affected up until pay day. I'm never very good at ensuring that I have enough cash in the bank to pay bills and get up to pay day!!!!!
