Money matters can be a bit of minefield. If you're getting in a muddle, listen to an expert! This leads me on to 'what not to do with money' rule 18:

#18 Don't ignore the experts!

It seems to me just about everyone is a bit of an expert in something. This is great because learning from an expert means you don't have to put in all the hard work yourself! Even better, heeding the advice of a finance expert really can save you a lot of money.

Of course, there's an infinite supply of topics that would never be my Mastermind specialist subject in a million years. Technology, for instance, is my Achilles heel. I really don't have the aptitude or, for that matter, the inclination.

But luckily for me fellow lovemoney.com writer, Szu Ping Chan is quite the technology connoisseur. So, whenever I get a bit stuck with gadgety things, I know exactly where to turn.

Just last week she was pretty appalled when I told her I'd had the same mobile phone for three years. I must admit I'd started to think my contract probably was a tad more expensive than it should be. But there are just so many handsets and deals to choose from, where do you start?

So armed with my very basic requirements; lots of free minutes, lots of free texts and a nice looking phone, Szu did whatever it is technology experts do.

A few days later I am the proud owner of a fantastic new phone (it really is very nice), a contract which is easily twice as generous as my old one for the same price AND £140 automatic cashback!! Brilliant.

I'm sure I'm would have been capable of upgrading the contract myself if I had too. But I seriously doubt I would have discovered such a great deal.

So, thanks a million, Szu. I owe you a pint or two when my cashback comes through!!
