#7 Don't waste money this summer

The sunny season is a fantastic opportunity to make the most of the great outdoors. And, when the weather is good, you can save money too.

Here are my five favourite summer saving tips:

1. Summer is a great time for cheap outdoor activities. Think fruit picking on a nearby farm - all you need to pay for is the fruit! Or take a picturesque walk or bike ride for free. The beach can be pretty inexpensive day out too.

2. If you can live without your creature comforts swap your luxury hotel abroad for some camping fun in good old blighty. Take a look at Ally Hunt's blog on how not to have a money saving holiday. Ally will tell you how to save the day if the great British weather lets you down.

3. Leave your car at home and start walking or cycling everywhere. Not only will you enjoy a nice sunny start to your day, but it's easy on the pocket, good for the environment and will help to keep you fit too.

4. Don't go out for dinner. If you have a garden, dine al fresco instead. You'll love the novelty and the price!

5. And finally, get involved in your local community. There should be loads of free or cheap things to do in the summer months. In my area this weekend, you could go on a Summer Solstice Walk & (bring-your-own) Picnic for example, or get dancing at a community entertainment fair offering salsa and rumba classes. And it's all completely free!
