How to avoid stamp duty

Wealthy people can use a loophole to avoid stamp duty.

Citywire has an interesting article today on how to avoid stamp duty. If you're buying an expensive property, you can use up-market lawyers to exploit a concession that was originally given to Islamic borrowers. It's all related to the fact that under Islamic Law, interest is illegal.

Disclosure: I used to work for Citywire and I own a very small number of shares in the company. So it's theoretically possible that I might be highlighting this article because I want to boost the value of my shares. But I'm not. I genuinely think it's an interesting article.
